That’s because the varicella zoster virus, which causes both chickenpox and shingles is a herpes virus, which stays in your body indefinitely. It simply has outbreaks on occasion, but it hides in special immunoprivilged areas where your immune system cannot reach.
Whoah, are you sure that many die, or is that too many zeros? That sounds a lot like the numbers for automobile crash fatalities. But either way, yeah, the stuff that REALLY KILLS gets a small amount of attention.

Either way, it’s always interesting how there doesn’t seem to be any uproar when so many thousands of people die from the flu each year, yet when a few hundred people get measles and none have died yet, everyone flips their #$%^#! What is up with some people noawadays?!!!
