Since the Bible endorses constitutional monarchy (as granted temporarily to David’s offspring), it can’t be left wing per se, I don’t think. Absolute monarchy would be left wing, what with its emphasis on collectivism.

Bullcrap. That’s an old saw that every fat farting potentate has used for centuries. Two problems, first, it was old testament. Jesus wiped that deal out. And Jesus gave no indication that we should have a temporal king that his dad would choose for us.
Second, how could we ever know when this temporal Monarch is one picked by God to rule over us?
And read some Thomas Paine. David did not have a constitutional monarchy. They had no constitution he was constrained by. That’s what the Magna Carta was about. Paine made that laughable by pointing out that if God picked this King to lord over us, then why would he need to be checked by some representative body WE picked? Are we making sure God stays in line? Remember, the monarch is supposed to represent Gods will. If not, they are just the one who has seized power by some sort of force or fraud.
Monarchism, Roman Catholics are naturally drawn to it. Being told what to do, by another human allegedly chosen by god, is not a conservative value.

I should perhaps expand on my last post. If the US fails, ie., becomes a 2nd rate player in defense matters on the level of present day Russia, then I give a Russia - China axis a maybe 20% chance of becoming dominant enough to prevent a very significant nuclear war, down the line.
Obviously, that sort of Russia - China dominance is a very lousy scenario. It’s just not as bad as a nuclear war, especially if considerable fallout drifts to the US.
Just as obviously, one would hope, no sane FReeper (etc.) wants the US to fail, except maybe for Putin paid trolls or other Putinistas. But many here, in Washington, and in Europe, exhort weak policies which will take the world “there”.

And God indeed does change. Its called a new covenant. We aren’t exactly doing the whole burned offering thing today. We aren’t following the old Jewish law. The God of the New Testament does not do that. And no, we do not need to stand by and endure old testament government structures, because they are not commanded to us. And Jesus never told us anything remotely like that we must suffer tyrants, dictatorships, and he never said he was leaving a structure of monarchies.
And please clarify, as Americans, we are lucky I guess. But were our founders sinning by rebelling against the King who had legitimate authority over their areas for around 180 years?
