For an idea of what he was referring to with the Enola Gay Exhibit comment, check
this out.
For what it's worth, my dad, an officer in the Navy in WWII, always said that if not for the Enola Gay, I and my brothers would probably not exist because he was on his way to Japan to fight, and everyone slated to go knew that their chances of survival were slim, going up against a culture that regularly produced such things as kamikaze pilots. Japanese culture was such that those people would rather die than lose. A noble people, the Japanese, and a magnificent culture, but the aggressors and imperialists as well. Many WWII vets maintain that dropping the bomb -- actually America had to drop TWO atom bombs on Japan because one wasn't enough to get it through to the Japanese that they had better stop -- saved tens of thousands of lives, both American and Japanese.

Runciman’s work is mentioned in the article, but not in a flattering way...

And another thing about the Japanese and the Enola Gay -- in Prisoner of War camps run by Germans, as horrific as they were, the death rate of prisoners was about six percent. In Japanese POW campus, the death rate was SIXTY PERCENT. The Japanese were unbelievably brutal, cruel, and aggressive.
The Enola Gay exhibit ignored all that and made the Japanese out to be victims, and Americans got pretty ticked off at that. Amen!!!

Here is a great book on the Siege of Malta. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down, and neither could others I have lent it to. The courage and skill of these vastly outnumbered Christian knights and soldiers is breathtaking.

I have studied WWII History and I understand the Atom Bomb drop saved both American and Japanese lives. Just was not sure the context of the Enola Gay History (from the Liberal Japanese view)
The Atom Bomb drop saved 250,000 to a million lives either American or Japanese in a ground fight to take Japan by ground troops. Japan would have been a hell of a ground fight. It is not just one island it's several with hills, mountains, and uneven terrain. Would have been hell.
I am sure a smart Japanese would understand the good of dropping two bombs. It stopped the War.
