Kirk Cameron's "Saving Christmas" Expected to Sweep Razzie Awards
Gold Derby ^ | 2/19/15 | Daniel Montgomery

Posted on 02/20/2015 8:04:11 AM PST by YourAdHere

"Saving Christmas," in which Kirk Cameron tries to convince his brother-in-law about the Christian meaning of the holiday, will win four of its six nominations: Worst Picture, Worst Actor (Cameron), Worst Screenplay, and Worst Screen Combo (Cameron and his ego).

But "Transformers" is expected to win twice: Worst Director (Michael Bay) and Worst Remake, Ripoff or Sequel. That would bring the franchise to a total of five Razzies, after the three awards won by "Revenge of the Fallen" in 2009, including Worst Picture.

Former "Transformers" star Megan Fox, who previously earned a Worst Actress bid for "Revenge of the Fallen," is favored to win her first Razzie, as Worst Supporting Actress in the Michael Bay-produced "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

Worst Supporting Actor will go to Mel Gibson, one of three nominees in that category from "Expendables 3." It would be the first Razzie for the embattled actor.

I haven’t watched a modern Hollywood film since 2006. I have no idea what sort of trash they’re producing or whether it is of any quality. The problem with Christian films is that we tend to look at the message and exalt that over writing or production value. The problem I have with that is that we lose just about everyone with poorly produced movies and we lower our own standards just to watch something with the right message.

You saw it? If true that’s a shame as I have liked his stuff.

Not me. Never got closer to it than reading some reviews and a couple of clips. Looks bad.

Certain people seem to think we are required to support everything a “conservative” artist does, even if it is junk. No, I am only required to support their freedom to do it.

If it turns out to be junk, I’m still going to call it junk, and not praise. To praise it would be no different than the left and their “soft bigotry of low expectations”.

Truthfully, are you looking at the right things?

I watched Steel Magnolia's yesterday. Everyone sang it's praises. Wonderful movie! I thought it was crap. The best part was everyone's character slamming Shirley MacLaines character. Otherwise it was a waste of time.

I'd rather watch any movie made by Pure Flix as I actually laugh, for real, or enjoy the message. I love old Hollywood films like Cary Grant movies. I enjoyed Quigley Down Under too, I like westerns, John Wayne included. But I think most of what Hollywood thinks is great is actually garbage.

If it’s a bad movie, that’s a shame. He does good stuff. Usually.

The point is that if something is not made with imagination or artistry then it is not enjoyable. I’m speaking generally since I have not seen this film.

I haven’t seen this one either but enjoyed his other work. It’s too bad if this one actually falls short.

I agree that a lot of what Hollywood produces is garbage. That doesn’t mean that some of the films don’t have artistic qualities and good writing, even if the message is ultimately evil or otherwise objectionable. One of the reasons why many of the classic Hollywood films are so good is because the writing is superior and the production is very good. I’m sorry but Kirk Cameron’s shoestring budget junk doesn’t even compare.

Monumental is a documentary type film on the founding of America. He had quite a few experts from England and America give info in the movie. It was very good.

Funny thing is that there is no “Christian meaning” to Christmas!

If they read their Bibles enough to figure this out, they might even be celebrating the totally contra-scriptural nature of this film.

Truth is often way stranger than fiction.

I liked Fireproof. Did you see his documentary Monumental? It really is worth watching.

About Hollywood, if the subject is bad no amount of writing is going to save it. A bad story is a bad story.

I felt the same way about the conservative "comedy" An American Carol. I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, it just wasn't very funny. It had a few decent jokes and a couple of touching moments. But those could not make up for the dead moments as one gag after another failed to elicit a peep from the audience.

Let’s be perfectly honest, most Christian film productions are of very poor quality.

I disagree! I thought “The Nativity” was tastefully done and a nice movie. Also, I think it very hard to find a “Christian” movie as good as “Jesus of Nazareth” starring Robert Powell.

Remember when Bob Jones III called “Jesus of Nazareth” blasphemous and tried to lead a boycott of GM for sponsoring it?
