Charismatic Jameis Winston Erasing Doubts in NFL Combine Interviews
Bleacher Report ^ | 2/21/2015 | Mike Freeman

Before the 40s and the jumping and the throwing, Jameis Winston went through interviews with a number of teams. The results were, well, allow me to let one team's personnel man who was in the room with Winston explain.

"I think he's probably the smartest player I've ever interviewed," he told me.

Ever?

"Ever," he responded. "Football IQ as good as I've ever seen."

One scout described how Winston was so impressive with his knowledge of X's and O's that "there was a moment where we kind of looked at each other and said, 'Oh, okay, wow.'"

The comparison I heard several times was Peyton Manning.

Not another Vince Young it's pretty safe to say.

On the field he is superlatively skilled at all aspects of the position. Whichever team drafts him needs to hire 24/7 “handlers”. More than one, to be certain.

His agency group also represents Colt McCoy, Ryan Tannehill, Reggie Bush, and Pierre Garcon. On the upside, they also represent DeMarco Murray.

That said, they do appear to be good at the "hype" game.

Over the top hype like this makes me think his only shot at a big contract is going to be his first one, of which Mike Freeman will certainly get a cut.

Morality IQ is in single digits though.

Yup, he is a loose cannon and can't stay out of trouble off the field....did the interviewer see his performance in the playoffs?
I am suspicious of these loud touts...I would caution the GM’s to be very careful...

I’m thinking he’d fit in perfect in oakland

He may be "football smart", but in the wake of his sexual assault scandal and crab leg scandal, it was not very intelligent to do what he did to get suspended for the first half of the Clemson game this year.

In case you weren't following, he stood up on a table in the student union and yelled " 'F' her right in the 'P' ".

While I realize "kids are kids", what kind of rocket scientist do you have to be to do this, on a potentially national championship team, the year you're coming out for the NFL when you should be keeping your head down and maintaining as squeaky clean a profile as possible.

Yet another "son" for Obama to claim and I hope he does so the next act of JW stupidity (and I guarantee there will one) can be hung around Obama's neck. Although, I guess if the team gets handlers to do his grocery shopping so he's not tempted by the crablegs in the store, then that will reduce the exposure. However, I don't see them keeping him out of clubs full of women. That will be his downfall and the NFL will have to act.

I wonder whether any of the NFL teams asked direct questions about his BB gun fight, the alleged rape, stealing crab legs or his “eff her right in her &@ssy” stuff? And that’s what we know about? There’s usually more. On field the kid is a truly gifted athlete, but the off field stuff is a wild card.

Athletic talent and moral issues aside, have any of you heard Winston speak? He can barely string words together into a coherent sentence. No way he impressed coaches with his brilliance off the field.

The writer must work for Florida State’s PR dept.

As a tampabay fan this guy scares me. Trade the pick and get a qb in free agency.

Trade the pick and get a talent evaluator who can draft the next Brady in the sixth round.
