Only net neutrality can protect the internet from becoming like TV: white, middle-class, exclusive

The future of the internet is about to be decided. Will it continue to be a place where dreams are born, dissent is protected, and democracy thrives? That depends on a crucial net neutrality vote at the Federal Communications Commission on February 26.

Internet Service Providers want to break the internet into fast and slow lanes that sell public voice to the highest bidder. If we lose that vote, the most democratic communications platform the world has ever seen could become more like cable TV, a fairly scary place that reproduces the economic gaps and racial hierarchies of the offline world.

A year ago, when a DC circuit court struck down the first round of hard-won net neutrality rules, the court’s decision charged its proponents with the daunting task of persuading the FCC to reclassify broadband as a common carrier, under Title II of the Communications Act.

Never mind that the FCC has no authority to regulate the Internet. They’ll just invent the authority and take it.

The left still has faith in their fairyland creation; government by the “best and brightest”.

What a complete crock.

Al Jazeera and the New ISIS channels where they teach infidelas how they are supposed to live under sharia law. Daily beheadings live daily at 10, 2, and 4 with an occasional hand chopping or stoning thrown in for variety...

Uhhhhhhh. A question from the back of the re-education camp? Isn't TV regulated by the FCC?

Useful idiots tend to see the shower room at the concentration camp as just a weekend at the spa.

If there is one area of the left and right should agree on is opposition to net neutrality.

Isnt that how the government always works though? If they want your possessions or lands they just create a false charge, put you in jail, then seize your goodsvand lands as evidence then charge that they assets acquired via criminal activities and forfeit your ownership and steal it. We live in a thugocracy now with the most transparent administration ever.

No, they don’t. It was established under the 1934 Act to provide regulation and management of the broadcast RF spectrum. It has nothing to do with fiber, satellite, microwave, cable or any other non-public, non-RF broadcast means of information transferal, period.

Net neutrality is an evolutionary leap in government usurpation without basis or authority. Even under the commerce clause it is a fantastic example of audacity and BS. The RINOs in congress, had they the balls, could defund the FCC to stop this.

The same people will scream and moan about how the FCC wont let them say dirty words on TV. There are rap lyrics from people like Eminem that complain about them! Let's not forget the decades-old cat and mouse game between the FCC and pirate radio stations that just wanted to play what corporate-controlled radio refused. The FCC were seen as just a bunch of puritanical control-freaks stiffing free-expression. But now they are going to "protect" the internet and not once censor anything? Like I said, they are useful idiots.

With asset forfeiture, they don’t even have to charge you with a crime. They simply have to SUSPECT that you obtained your property by participating in the drug trade. No evidence is required. If you want it back, you must get a lawyer and PROVE that you DIDN’T get it through drug trafficking.

With Net Neutrality the Internet will become white, exclusive, and Leftist. Non conforming content will be squeezed out.
