Rep. Peter King slams his party's right wing over delay on Homeland Security funds

Long Island's Rep. Peter King said Friday he had run out of patience with the House Republicans who are bent on defunding the Homeland Security Department to protest President Barack Obama's immigration executive orders.

"It's wrong politically because we'll be blamed for shutting down the department," said King (R-Seaford). "It's wrong morally because we are putting American lives at risk to satisfy a political imperative."

That cliff -- the expiration of funds for DHS as of midnight Friday night -- was avoided with Congress' late action. But it was just hours away when 52 conservative Republicans and 172 Democrats voted down a GOP plan for a three-week extension of DHS funding late in the afternoon.

King made his comments before Congress passed a one-week bill late last night to avert a partial shutdown of the Homeland Security Department.

King said he tweeted Friday a reprise of his even blunter remarks at a closed House GOP caucus meeting late Thursday: "I've had it with this self-righteous delusional wing of the party that leads us over the cliff."

King and Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-Shirley) voted for the extension -- King to keep DHS open and Zeldin to give more time to reach a deal on immigration. Democratic Reps. Steve Israel of Huntington, Kathleen Rice of Garden City and Gregory Meeks of St. Albans voted no.

Israel said DHS can't operate on three-week increments of funding: "The Senate Republican leader and House Democrats agree on one year of funding. House Republicans should quit playing games and pass it."The plan by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) for stopgap funding ran into stiff opposition from members such as Rep. Walter Jones (R-N.C.), who tweeted: "I won't cave & support funding for Obama's unconstitutional #amnesty"

Why should we pay DHS to not do their job? If we defunded them tomorrow what difference would it make?

It is the Democrats who have blocked the DHS funding at least 3 times in the Senate.

Exactly. The GOP has passed a bill and the Democrats and the President refuse in order to protect the President’s illegal executive orders. How in the world the GOP can not win this message is nuts but idiots like him won’t even point the finger where it belongs. They just accept that the Democrats should be able to stonewall to protect illegal aliens over national security.

Peter King and far too many Republicans are in agreement with the Democrats on amnesty. They just won’t say it openly.

I am tired of moronic congresscritters like Peter King. The more I think about it, the more I believe that Texas should not be in the same country as New York.

Say what you will about the rats. They at least have the courage to stand up for their convictions (no matter how delusional they are). Aside from Manchin, I haven’t heard one rat complain about the stand their leadership is taking.

Every time a conservative takes a stand, he is abandoned by the likes of King, McCain, Graham, Burr, McConnell, Alexander, Corker, Isaackson, and other establishments so that they can go on tv and be treated like statesman.

Peter King is a media whore. He might as well join the democrats. He votes like them, attacks conservatives, and never met a camera he didn’t like. Oh wait, he does not have a spine. Never mind.

Should break up the whole thing. Bundling the agencies together did nothing useful; just slowed their operations.

Got to hell, Peter King. I'd rather have the Peter King from Sports Illustrated represent your district.

Both parties are bought and paid for by elite business interests that want cheap labor.

The Commie Democrats are promoted as the enemy but their Left-wing rhetoric is ultimately as phony as conservative words that come out of Republicans mouths.

Corpratism fuels the Uniparty in Washington with big business and big banks using the government system to shove
Amnesty, Obamacare, Common Core and so much more down our throats....

""It's wrong politically because we'll be blamed for shutting down the department," said King (R-Seaford)".

And why is that King? Maybe because you and your GOPe don't have the balls or intelligence to point out it is a small part of the DHS funding? Sheesh, you Rinos now have the bully pulpit, but what do you do as always? Cower. You people need to hire some expert PR people because you obviously don't know how to get your message out. Walker and Cruz do and reaching even out to Dims. Take a lesson you entrenched puke.

So BIG DEAL, the vote only prolonged the agony once more. Unless they can come up with a workable solution within the next few weeks, they will be right back where they are today, taking another vote. When will the assholes get their act in order and get something constructive accomplished? Maybe never.........

And the rinos continue their self destruction.
