Top spokespeople for US President Barack Obama's administration on Monday night echoed warnings that a release of classified information on Iran talks would be a "betrayal," after an unnamed official was quoted saying Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will detail the deal being formed with Iran in his US Congress address Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday an Israeli official said Israel is familiar with the emerging agreement with Iran and that Netanyahu will elaborate on it in his congressional address, sparking US Secretary of State John Kerry to warn against revealing details - despite his having claimed a week ago that Israel didn't know the details in an attempt to downplay Israeli opposition to the deal.
Kerry's deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf on Monday night said discussing the contents of classified briefings by US officials to Israelis would "betray" America's trust, reports AFP.
"We've continuously provided detailed classified briefings to Israeli officials to keep them updated and to provide context for how we are approaching getting to a good deal," she told reporters in Washington. "Any release of any kind of information like that would, of course, betray that trust."
That message was reiterated by White House press secretary Josh Earnest on Monday night, who said the White House is "concerned" at how unnamed Israeli officials in several recent reports are using information to "distort" America's negotiating position with Iran.

Certainly, if anyone is an expert on ‘betrayal’ it would be Barack Obama.
But the whole premise is laughably false.
It’s not as if they are talking about revealing negotiating strategies that the Iranians are not privy to. Rather, they are saying that informing the American people about what the Obama regime has proposed to the Iranian regime would be a ‘betrayal’, because the Obamunists know that they can not get away with it if Americans know about their sellout before they can present it as a fait accompli.
The Iranians certainly know what Obama has offered them - in fact, their press has published the details, and has celebrated the negotiations so far as a great victory by Iran against the Great Satan.
So, the only ‘betrayal’ going on here is Obama’s betrayal of American interests.

If Netanyahu reveals what Iran already knows, but congress doesn’t, and the American people don’t, I can see why that would upset the obamists. They are used to operating in the dark with hermetic cover from the press.
Yep, it’s hard to see what Iran would care if the proposal became common knowledge, since they hold all of the aces and are a dictatorship with no domestic or international accountability.
