BERLIN (Reuters) - The U.S. military estimates around 12,000 Russian soldiers are supporting pro-Moscow separatists in eastern Ukraine, U.S. Army Europe Commander Ben Hodges said on Tuesday.

The Russian forces are made up of military advisers, weapons operators and combat troops, Hodges said in a speech in Berlin, adding that a further 29,000 soldiers were stationed in the Crimea peninsula that Moscow annexed from Ukraine last year.

In addition, 50,000 troops are positioned on the Russian side of the border with Ukraine in case the separatists suffer a severe setback and the Ukrainian army gains the upper hand, Hodges said.

Then the Russians do a good job of hiding them because the video coming out of there is primarily of old militia types or young kids with no obvious military training except how to poorly shoot an AK.

Ukrainian officials’ main mode of operation is stealing money with both hands. All their remaining activity is just for show, to dupe supporters and stay close to state coffers this way.
There are no internal resources left to support their habit so their only hope is on foreign aid to keep pocketing it.
Admitting they are at war with their own people is obviously bad for business. You won’t get any aid, but condemnation this way. Playing a card of foreign invasion is much more profitable. It begs for more sympathy the more aid.

Reading the Putin news releases claiming that photos of Russian tank columns and troops aren't actually from Ukraine, but from their previous invasion of Georgia.

Now that is a classic line of defense. “Your Honor, those are not photos of me robbing the bank at 1st and Main, those are photos of me robbing the bank at 3rd and Oak. Clearly I'm being framed.”

Next we'll get posts here claiming that the Ukrainians dressed provocatively and “they enjoyed it”.

Would you say that the non-Russians in this video with the self-propelled artillery are 11 or 12 years old?

Amazing how the tide turned once the Russians started providing “humanitarian” aid. No wonder our FRussians were stroking themselves about it.

Yeah, they’re highly predictable, these fans of Putin.

The western MIC play along with this charade for similar reasons.
