I’m Gay and I (Sort Of) Agree With Ben Carson
Daily Beast ^ | 03/05/2015 | Sally Kohn

On Wednesday, perpetually controversial conservative Ben Carson told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that being gay is “absolutely” a choice.

I agree, kind of. Last week I wrote an essay for the Washington Post in which I talked about wanting my daughter to be gay—implicitly and explicitly challenging the idea long advanced by gay rights advocates that being gay is not a choice. I’m not saying being gay necessarily is a conscious choice for many queer folks today, but I am saying it should be able to be a choice—and one that is “equally desirable to being straight.”

In other words, for me, the idea that people might be able to choose to be gay is a natural extension of eliminating the second-class, lesser-than status of gayness in society.

This is, however, not the case for Ben Carson. Mr. Carson is most definitively not endorsing the full moral and social equality of gayness.

Asked why he thinks being gay is a choice, Carson said, “Because a lot of people who go into prison, go into prison straight—and when they come out they’re gay. So did something happen while they were in there? Ask yourself that question.”

Yes, obviously they all met Alex Voss and, bam, they were gay. If orange is the new black, prisons are the new women’s colleges. This, incidentally, is literally the only potentially positive twist on America’s atrociously skyrocketing rates of incarceration over the last 50 years.

I believe in the “Hybrid Theory”.

That is that there are some urges that are naturally stronger in some people than other, now HOW these urges come about is still being investigated by science (science is never fully settled) , be it purely genetic or hormonal/chemical factor in the womb or during childhood is still up for investigation.

Now that is only ONE side of the coin the other side if how people ACT on these URGES is what makes them homosexual or not. It is possible to have homosexual urges and never act on them for one’s entire life. And conversely it is possible to not have any homosexual urges at all and behave in a homosexual way.

Take the example of Aggression and Violent Criminals, some people are naturally more aggressive than others.

The progressives would say that these people are more prone to be criminals and should either be imprisoned ahead of time , or excused of the crimes they commit because it is “not their fault” or “born that way”.

Where a conservative would say that only those who act on dangerous impulses would need to be punished while those who practice self control should be left alone.

So as you see this is why the Progressive mindset is either totalitarian or just plain dangerous, where the conservative mindset is freedom oriented, ie. the rule of law, not the rule of man or the jungle.

Just like on the Homosexual issue the Progressives either excuse or prejudge someone based on their UNFILTERED behavior, they are the most cynical control freaks out there as they feel it is their right that they get to herd the human animals around. Just as a rancher sees the bulls mounting each other and just shakes his head and goes, “ah well, they are just dumb animals, that’s their nature. As long as they stay in their pens it is fine by me...” . They never elevate humans above mere rutting animals.

You know, we all need to work past this....

It is a choice. Just because they SAY it is genetic doesn’t make it so. People choose to be gay and choose right out of the lifestyle by decisions of the will.

I have a good friend with a granddaughter who has a story similar to your niece’s and it has broken his heart. Last week I suggested he watch Dr. Rosaria Butterfield give her testimony at the Ligonier Conference two weeks ago. I don’t want to tell too much of her story, but Rosaria was a Marxist lesbian professor who was radically saved. She is now a pastor’s wife and mother. My friend watched it and said it really helped him. Maybe her story could help your niece or those who love her.

Here is a link to purchase Rosaria’s book:

The lesbians and gays I’ve met are very different, just as female and male sexualities are quite different.

I don’t think I’ve ever met a lesbian that thought she was “born gay.” Many of the lesbians I have talked to (and the dozen or so I have talked to are no representation of lesbian opinions) have had experiences with men and frankly, many still have interest in men.

The gay males I have talked to, on the other hand, are extremely scared of sexual interaction with females. There’s just something in their past that averted them away from interest in females, many times a traumatic sexual encounter with a male. I noticed, also, that there is a LOT of self-destructive behavior in their community (a lot of drugs). Older gay males, who have “weathered the storm” grow out of that behavior. Many of them are not activist, either, but the ones that are try to speak for the group. This is where all the flak comes from.

I’ve met a few ex-gays and lesbians as well, even ones that quit the lifestyle but are not Christian. One of my friends just said the ketamine and lifestyle of wild abandon was killing him, so he got out while he could.

I agree.

Being a violent criminal infringes on other people’s rights, irrespective of whether the trait is genetic or a matter of choice. (In other words, violent criminals should be jailed even if it can be proven that they have “genes for violence”.)

OTOH being gay, or even having (consensual!) gay sex, does not infringe on anyone else’s rights, and so, shouldn’t be punished, irrespective of whether there is a “gay gene” or not.

Of course, people might not want their kids exposed to “gay is ok” messages at school, in which case the problem is associated with the school, not with gay people. Parents, legally responsible for their children, should be able to choose what education their children receive, which the current public school model greatly interferes with. (Should it happen, though, that gayness is genetic, these parents could be in for a shock if they happen to be carriers and their children turn out to be gay. Come to think of it, this could happen even if it isn’t genetic.)

When I was in college in the mid-late 70's it was the first time I was exposed to lots of gays. I was a theater major and the department was crawling with them. It was also crawling with hot heterosexual girls. Guys like me had to jump through all the hoops guys have jumped through since time immemorial to get dates with the girls. However, the gays seemed to have no barriers whatever about having as much sex as possible. So, when some young guy would join the department as a freshman, if he was intimidated by girls but wanted to have sex, all he had to do was say "I'm gay", or "I'm not sure if I'm gay or straight", and he could be having sex that very day with one or several gay guys. They seemed to be quite casual about having sex with whomever happened to be gay.

I think sex for love and sex for distraction is inherently different.

Ben and Rudy both. I’d like to see somebody say something and not walk it back.

Homosexuals are parasites on civilization, and at the same time curse the organism that sustains them.

All nations need a positive rate of replacement in order to survive. Russia’s in big trouble. The entire Islamic world, sadly, is not.

We’re sort of holding our own. (No pun intended)

It is the cramming it down everyone’s throats as 100% perfectly normal that most all sane people object to.

The homosexuals would have us believe it’s a birth defect.

As they claim it’s not a choice, a defect by any other name would be as defective.

33 ... We’re sort of holding our own. (No pun intended)

Only because of the illegal alien influx. Otherwise, we are on the same path as Russia and Europe. Right now, the white slice of the U.S. population pie is ~61% (It was ~90% in 1960). A few years ago the U.S. Census Bureau projected it would shrink to 50% by 2042. With BHO's amnesty/open borders policy, it will happen sooner.

A long time ago I was a teacher. Of young kids.

Believe me. You can tell from a very early age. Some choose, some do not. It's not a black/white issue.

The country is full of confusion about this subject.

Sadly, Ben Carson’s contribution is to add more confusion.

He can’t lead, because he’s confused himself.
