When shots rang out on her West Oakland block, Chyemil Pierce’s first instinct was to protect her children. The 30-year-old mother screamed at her 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter to run as bullets flew.
Her kids ran around their house and hid, cowering in fear. They were unhurt, but their mother was hit by a stray bullet — and died outside the family’s home.

I went to oakland to see an art exhibit..at a studio just northwest of dowtown..a few months ago. the first time Id been in the east bay in decade. It looked a war zone...
That’s what happened in Wolfe’s novel “Bonfire of the Vanities”, except that the guy’s girl-friend was driving and accelerated so hard that the car fish-tailed and the rear-end smacked one of those Amish that lived there. Then, the Sharpton types came out, and the guy was arrested.

I apologize, I did not intend to offend. Every day, some innocent person is maimed or killed in Oakland. Until the black community takes responsibility for their community and the thugs that are rampant there, nothing will change. Many more will die and there is nothing I can do about it.
I wish that the young mother could live in a community where she would never have to warn her children to get to safety. But that is not Oakland today.
Unless the Attorney Gebnral can pin it on a white cop or some other white taxpayer it’s not news.

Gunned down implies an intent to kill. This was an accidental death due to a stray bullet.
The shooter was trying to kill someone else but sucked at gun use.
