The document is just replete with ridiculousness. I can’t even begin to understand how many subdepartments they’ll have to set up to make this work.

Cloward-Piven at work, folks.

But it will make sure Netflix can’t pay extra for ‘premium service’ bandwidth!

And that’ll teach them...

[[which now will be pored over by broadband Internet service providers as they prepare for an expected legal challenge to the rules.]]

Swell, the FCC is taking something that they have NO authority to regulate, FORCING companies to comply, and then make them spend millions (perhaps billions by the time it’s over) and force tem to lay off workers and raise internet prices for those who can barely afford it now because of the litigation-

What a brilliant plan to get this country back on track financially- make everything MORE expensive!

Headline is a LIE, should read:
Congress allowing inferior agency to take over internet!

Just another dog and pony show, Obama may want a lot of things bu it is CONGRESS that is explicitly allowing it, They caN stop ALL OF IT OVERNIGHT.

Congress has ALL the power in washington, the executive and judicial branch operate according to the whims of CONGRESS!

Congress can Remove the President
Congress can remove the head of every executive agency
Congress can remove ALL of their employees
Congress can Abolish every agency they so choose
Congress can remove EVERY JUDGE IN AMERICA, including every supreme court justice.
Congress can abolish every federal court except the supreme Court
Congress can decide which cases the Judicial Branch can hear and decide
CONGRESS can Imprison ANYONE they want for any reason they so desire for as long as they wish.
Congress can declare WAR

No other governing body has even 10% of the power CONGRESS has!!

CONGRESS IS ALLOWING ALL OF IT!!!

From the regs: "Further, we reiterate the guidance of the 2010 Open Internet Order that network management practices that alleviate congestion without regard to the source, destination, content, application, or service are also more likely to be considered reasonable network management practices in the context of this exception."

IOW, they are not allowed to throttle the video that is causing the congestion problem, but are required to throttle everything else as well. Say hello to slower FR (and that is just the beginning).

Of course that is just one of the 87 stipulatios about "reasonable network management". That means this whole thing is also designed to be a boon for the class action lawyers. I can see the ads now: "Did your Netflix video sputter? Call 1-800-SUE-COMCAST"

“meaning ALL those people who thought this was going to be great.....if you like your NET, you can keep your NET..WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING IT”

Indeed, this will likely suck performance right out of the interwebs, because we all know how efficient government folk are....or, it will suck because performance will improve, but that’s because newly installed routing equipment designed to pull even more personal data from ALL network transactions....of any kind...

Still gotta read the darned thing, but betting it will suck most because Free Republic may somehow be designated “not Scottish” and blocked.

I'd read it, but the FCC website appears to be struggling...

The normal FCC website is temporarily unavailable due to technical difficulties. We are working to restore the full FCC website back to normal as soon as possible.

It’s cute that the net neutrality clowns thought this would mean fast internet for their precious Netflix rather than everything being throttled.

From the dissent in the document: "I expect that the rigid Title II rules adopted today will hamstring the smooth functioning of these networks. Although some may argue that the exception for reasonable network management will allow such flexibility, a case-by-case approach whereby a wireless providerâs congestion management practices are judged after the fact by the Commissionâs Enforcement Bureau is unlikely to provide much comfort to wireless providers."

Agree 100%. A boon to complainants, lawyers, regulators, and all the other scum who make their living lowering everyone else's productivity.

Yeah, it is hard to imaging any other outcome. No sympathy at all for anyone who supported this out of ignorance.

You are exactly right. Congress is THE problem. All of them. Corrupt.

I think what is more significant than the ‘rules’ that will go into effect against internet service providers is the number of rules that were ‘suspended’ for ISPs that would apply to other common carriers. It takes but moments to remove those suspensions, and scant attention is usually paid to new rules for existing regulations, so additions and changes will be easy for them to toss in at any moment.

This is unneeded regulation. Competition is the ultimate force, and if someone wants ‘blazing fast internet speeds as we've banned Netflix and Youtube from our networks’, that should entirely be the choice of the consumer. There are scant places in the nation where only one provider option is available, and even in those places, the market is open for someone else to become a provider.
