Lets see: youre a rock star, stumbling around an unfamiliar city while wearing your girlfriend/managers dress. You feel the call of nature and, not knowing where the nearest gas station or hotel is, relieving yourself on a nearby statue seems like a good idea in your drunken state. But in the middle of the afternoon, with all sorts of people around, its a good way to get yourself in trouble and thats what famously happened to Ozzy Osbourne in San Antonio, Texas on Feb. 19, 1982.
Over the years, the story has taken on mythic proportions, stating that Osbourne urinated on the walls of the Alamo, the mission that was the site of a famous battle during the states War of Independence in 1836, and is considered to be sacred ground and a symbol of Texas pride.
Its just not true, an unnamed guide at the Alamo told Chris Rodell of the Boston Herald in 2003. If he had, the police wouldnt have arrested him. They would have beaten him to within an inch of his life.
However, the truth is that Ozzy urinated on the Alamo Cenotaph, a 60-foot high statue erected in 1939 to honor the 189 Texans who died there. The Cenotaph is adjacent to the mission, in the Alamo Plaza.
Osbourne was arrested for public urination and intoxication. He was reportedly released on a $40 bond, which was posted by Jack Orbin, who was promoting Osbournes concert at the HemisFair that night. However, the concert was marred by fans who threw rocks because they were unable to get into the sold-out show. Twenty-four people were arrested for their part in the riot.
The combination of the two events caused Osbourne to be banned from San Antonio by the city council. Ten years later, Osbourne was pardoned after he donated $10,000 to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, who maintain and manage the Alamo one of the most popular tourist attractions in Texas.

I am wondering if he is privy to reports of incompetence or lack of appropriate care? I do not discount the possibility that he might actually be correct in taking this action, but I don't like accepting his decision just on the basis of his word that it needs to be done.
The General Land Office took ownership of the Alamo in 2011 at the behest of the Legislature, which had grown concerned about the care of the iconic Texas landmark. Worries arose following accusations of mismanagement and financial incompetence levied at the nonprofit Daughters.
The next year, the General Land Office told the group’s Alamo Mission Chapter to vacate the Alamo grounds, that the group “could no longer store private belongings on state property, or continue to enjoy free, exclusive, long-term use of state property for private chapter business.”
During his campaign last year for land commissioner, the Republican Bush had expressed a desire to reach out to the Daughters for greater involvement in the Alamo’s affairs. Nevertheless, his decision to cancel the group’s management of the attraction was not a complete surprise to McCaffrey.
“That’s politics,” she said.
Alamo Director Becky Dinnin praised the Daughters for taking care of the Alamo, noting the group intervened in 1905 and “kept it from being torn down.” But she said that “over the past few years, the needs of the Alamo have really grown significantly, especially in the area of conservation and the need to be able to fundraise.”

No need for predictions or speculation. Jeb already stabbed Americans in the back when he broke his word to Terri Schiavo, thereby opening the door to forced euthanasia of vulnerable people.
Yeah, we’ve heard that ‘new direction’ crap before.
“Operational needs? There’s nothing inside ... it’s just a big empty building”
Actually, no. The Holy of Holies, the Alamo Gift Shop, is in the center of the building.
Guessing this has something to do with it. More Cowbell, More $$$.
obama giving America to the highest bidder.
Now Bush selling the Alamo to the highest Mexican bidder?
I can understand that, if that is indeed the problem. He isn't saying so because he doesn't want to hurt their feelings.
I guess we'll see when the new group is identified.
Hope & change Booshie. Pathetic.
PING!
“The article says that the management of the Alamo will go in a new direction”
That Mexico had every right to defend it’s sovereignty and exterminate radical elements terrorizing the town and holding the mission hostage?
As the article stated, it was the Texas 2011 legislator that initiated this, way before his time.
I wonder if Phil Collins will have second thoughts about donating his collection of artifacts to the Alamo?
why would you make such a stupid comment?
Good grief !!!
Theyre a dedicated bunch of patriotic women who do a great job at the Alamo and anywhere else ..I know a couple..
To join as a member a woman has to have prove shes descended from one of the original Texans..
theres a lot of pride and heartfelt Americanism in those societies..
His true colors, Mexico, are showing.
“Bush and his opponent in the Republican primary, East Texas businessman David Watts, both have said they want the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, custodians at the site from 1905 to 2011, more involved at the Alamo.”

Just $50?
I’d bet your house.
Yep, _I_ would bet _your_ house... :)
The Land Office plans to conduct a nationwide search for a company to manage the site.

What the members of the DRT did for nothing as volunteers will now have to be paid for by the taxpayers of Texas..
That’s the point , DRT wasn’t doing enough nor did it have the resources. This was decided by the Texas legislator back in 2011.
