Putin should have showed up there but I guess that would be rubbing it in a little too much.

The annexation of Ukraine's Black Sea peninsula however won President Vladimir Putin huge acclaim at home and Moscow is pulling out all the stops to mark the first anniversary of the hastily-arranged referendum in which nearly 97 percent of Crimeans voted to leave Ukraine and become part of Russia.

97 percent. Putin is more generous than Saddam, who only gave them like 1 percent.

Austria 1938 / Crimea 2014

History repeats itself. Local girls welcoming the takeover has always makes for good propaganda. After all if a young girl has nothing to fear, who does?

Your man crush of Putin has overcome your opposition to tyrants, assuming you value Liberty over thuggery.

The man admitted in a documentary on last year’s events broadcast on Russian television this weekend that he relied on public opinion to sanction his moves.

He’s more democratic than Obama who disregards it.

Your fawning love for Putin would be like heaping glory on Hitler at the start of WWII. You are a traitor, but get to post at will here on Freerepublic. Congrats on getting away with being a shill for a murderous KGB thug.

I look at Putin as opponent. One who is playing chess while we play checkers. We got soft. Our military has been decimated. What’s it gonna take to reverse that trend?

History repeats itself

Indeed...NATO encroachment in Eastern Europe over the past two decades now resembles the Nazi's encroachment of 1940/1941.

From the Russian point of view, defending their long borders in the west is a complicated matter.

Particularly since most of the population lives in the plain of European Russia.

There are no real mountains in much of the country, exposing it to chilly blasts from the Arctic and not in providing a real defensible barrier to foreign invasion.

So yes, history has compelled them to act accordingly.

The Poles and Czechs being free is an "encroachment"?

I think you are on the wrong web site. You need to go somewhere that matches your world view.

Austrians considered themselves German. Crimeans view themselves as Russian.

Because the German Army just came for the parade.

I swear to God, I don't know where all of the Russians came from on FR.

Before World War II, Austrians called their country German Austria.

This is not a view held today. Austrians nowadays do not want to be German, they have their own identity.

Horse manure.

Over the last hundred years, Russia has been involved in x number of invasions.

What % shows them on the receiving end?

Before German unification, Germany was a geographical area, not a country. There were many German kingdoms and nations. Austria, had never been united with the German kingdoms to the north, except for limited alliances. It was in the Hapsburg controlled empire. The Austro-Hungarian Empire, running up to the end of WWI, was allied, but quite seperate from Imperial Germany.

About the only thing that Austria and Germany have in common (more so than any other European countries) is language.

If the Austrians wanted to be part of Germany, they would be part of Germany. The only time in history that they have been is 1938-1945.

"I look at Putin as opponent."

Your actions betray your words.

You are enamoured by Putin and are quick to post pro-Russian propaganda. Your posting history clearly reveals this.
