Federal agencies made $125 billion in improper payments last year, including tax credits to people who didnt qualify, Medicare payments for treatments that might not be necessary and unemployment benefits for people who were actually working, said a government report released Monday.
The level of improper payments was a new high after several years of declines. In addition to fraud, the errors included overpayments and underpayments, as well payments made without proper documentation.
While the errors were spread among 22 federal agencies, three programs stood out: Medicare, Medicaid and the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Together, the three programs accounted for more than $93 billion in improper payments, according to the report by the Government Accountability Office, the investigative arm of Congress.

And no one will fix it including Redumblicans. They all think the felonist underground economey is just fine and dandy.
I remember when they first started using the word “billions” to describe the Federal budget. I wasn’t very old, but it gave me a bad feeling.
It’s probably a bloody gash where your wallet used to be.
I just called the English police.
100 billion dollars here, 100 billion dollars there, eventually it starts adding up to real money.
$125 billion here,
another $125 billion there...
Does that include the 6 B-B-B-BILLION that Hillary lost?
Sure, while money still has value. Could Dirksen have foreseen this?
Who is it that decides what treatments are necessary???
That’s just it. Government employees find out quickly that they often get in trouble for denying someone what they want, because the aggrieved citizen will complain to his Congressman or the Governor. The employee is then grilled about it, and, quite often, the aggrieved citizen gets his dough in the end. The bureaucrat is reminded that his job is to give stuff away, not protect taxpayers.
There is no incentive for government employees to rein in spending or to cut programs. Every government program and agency is rife with waste, fraud, and abuse. This is why we need government that sticks to its basic purpose - the legal system and national defense. Government doesn’t even do a good job at those.
The death panels that the Democrats assured us weren’t there, I would guess. They do have to bloat the system before crashing it, after all.
$125 Billion
That’s about 9 months worth of gas money for every driving American per year.
125,000,000,000/200,000,000 = $625.00
$52.00 per month
$2.80 x 28gal x 9 = $630
Sorry correction:
