Ted Cruz, the presidential candidate who wants to increase the H-1B cap by 500%

It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill.

What do you mean that they are no less applicable. They DO NOT exist.

How can something not in existence be applicable?

And you TOTALLY ignore that they were part of a killer amendment to the comprehensive immigration bill.

And you TOTALLY ignore that Harry Reid promptly killed this. Why did he do that?

This amendment was offered over 2 years ago and was killed in the Senate by Harry Reid.

The arguments Cruz made on its behalf are no less applicable now than they were then.

What do you mean that they are no less applicable. They DO NOT exist.

Simply wrong - the amendment no longer exists but the bogus H1Bs-create-jobs argument remains.

Nothing of it remains. Harry Reid killed it.

Why did he kill it?

He didn't kill the bogus H1Bs-create-jobs argument.

Why did he kill it?

There were other parts he didn't like. And *IF* he also didn't like H-1B expansion, then he - like the proverbial stopped clock - was right.

No, he killed it because they were killer provisions throughout: (A) through (F) and (2) all have killer provisions that Reid did not want to be limited by.

(A) Advanced degree from a US UNIVERSITY.
(B) Extraordinary abilities: internationally recognized, must continue working only in that area, must be something that will substantially benefit the US.
(C) Professors/Researchers: in institution only and only if they are tenured positions, in research, in an organization that has at least 3 other researchers in that area, and has achieved acclaim in that area.
(D) Executives/Managers: must be in same company in which they are employed overseas.
(E) Skilled workers: must have 2 years training or experience and must be a shortage of qualified workers.
(F) Employment creation: must invest a million dollars and must create at least 10 full time jobs.
(2) Shortage Workers: must not be from an area mentioned above and shortage must be verified by Bureau of Labor

Notice how easy it is to destroy a man’s reputation with a sound bite when the facts point clearly in the opposite direction? But getting the facts is harder and takes more effort than just throwing stones based on a baseless accusation.

The left will reach out to anything to destroy Ted Cruz. Unfortunately there are many here who would do the same.

You have set forth the facts of Ted Cruz’s proposal. It was reasonable and intended to benefit the United States rather than move it in the direction of a third world banana republic. That is why Harry Reid killed it.

I think Conserving Freedom is a Rand Paul supporter. Is that correct CF? You signed on about 9 months ago in the prelude to the midterms.

(E) Skilled workers: must have 2 years training or experience and must be a shortage of qualified workers.

No, as I noted before and you ignored, that was a category IN ADDITION TO the "highly-skilled workers" according to your link. (Not that I'd trust a "verification" from the feds anyway.)

No, (E) and (2) are different categories. A-F = up to 605,000 visas and (2) equals 350,000(?).

Both (E) and (2) are shortage based, but (E) is part of (1). (E) also required 2 years of training or experience.

Do you support any kind of immigration?

OK - the point remains that the real cap adds up to almost 1,000,000.

How many did Harry Reid want?

No. See the following:

How many did Harry Reid want?

No idea.

How much immigration do you support?

I support zero H-1Bs, which are indentured servitude for the sponsoring employer; I support skilled foreigners getting citizenship, so they have a stake in this country's success and can work for whoever they choose.

Who do you support at this point...I’m thinking I remember you as a Rand Paul supporter?

You're thinking wrong - see post #174. At this point I'm still looking for but not finding an America-for-Americans candidate.

We all claim to be capitalists here, but we all want the government to protect us from competition.

Try to go to Europe or Australia and get a job. No 'Mericans allowed. When they open up we should. Never happen. We are the only idiotic country that allows this to happen.

Asking for the elimination of H-1B is not a quest for perfection. It is common sense.
