Ted Cruz, the presidential candidate who wants to increase the H-1B cap by 500%

It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill.

Unfortunately in Cruz's mind STEM jobs are classified along with picking fruit as supposedly jobs Americans won't do. To paraphrase Obama's famous lie, If you like your STEM job earning middle class and above wages, you can keep your STEM job. Under Cruz's proposal what happened to the US STEM workers at Southern California Edison will happen everywhere. Is there one GOP candidate who will defend American workers?????

Ditto. I work in a field related to STEM. I earn a living I can support my family thanks to 20 years of hard schooling and doing a good job. Cruz wants to take that away from me.

I do not agree with this position, but Cruz is still the best candidate by far

Hillary cheers you on, I’m sure. So does Jebbie.

So what. In my mind they all want to stab me whether in the front or in the back. Do I care about whether the capital gains tax is 40% or 30%? No. I do care about whether I can keep my job and Cruz’s idea is the most direct threat to my job.

There are so many American engineers and computer programmers out of work, some can’t even get interviews...while the big corporations continue to import hundreds of thousands of new workers from communist China (mostly), India (programming) and other countries.

This has been a problem for American workers for a long time.
As much as we (here at this keyboard) are in favor of allowing for legal immigration, we ARE in a deep deep recession ... and if the American people have ANY importance, any say, any rights at all ... WE are entitled to those few jobs which haven’t been exported .... or ended due to Obamacare and regulatory costs, etc.

Let Americans get back to work. THEN let some foreign workers in, fine and dandy. Don’t keep Americans unemployed while importing so many aliens to take our jobs away from us.

Many vote based on the candidates position of life issues and other social issues. I have the drawn the line on immigration. So if that means I sit out 2016 so be it.

I saw stories of laid-off Americans told to train their foreign replacements

Should not be legal

Slice it any way you like, if you’re going to vote based on one issue, rather than looking at the whole man and his totality of stands on the issues. Anyone who voted for McCain in 2008 or Milt in 2012 has no business going after Cruz based on one peripheral issue when he is so far above any candidate since at least Reagan that it isn’t even funny.

Yes, agreed, this is a VERY BIG PROBLEM and hopefully he’ll flip on this or find Congress stopping it.

Have you ever noticed how many people are willing to forego any chance at saving our country from tyranny if in doing so, they might be affected negatively in a financial way.

Our country was founded by men who sacrificed their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to ensure the blessings of liberty to their posterity.

Unfortunately there are few men of that character around today. Everyone votes their pocketbook. Everyone is more concerned for their own condition and are not willing to fight for their grandchildren’s future.

We are the “what’s in it for me” generation.

I like Ted a lot but the Wisconsin governor has executive experience, which sadly we have learned is critical to the chief executive.

Illegal immigration is a big issue to me. Legal immigration is another story, considering all my ancestors were immigrants to the US.

It needs to be done sanely, though.

This is true . I’m an American and every job I’ve had I’ve been replaced by immigrants. Now trying to get going in IT again and again they want to import immigrants to take my job away. Plus also Obama’s oppressive regulations have destroyed every business I’ve attempted . I hate Obama.

It was an amendment to the gang of eight bill. the amendment was defeated. It’s dead.

Interesting that the amendment was about temporary work visas, and not illegals, eh?

and often the American worker is asked to train the new immigrant that’s replacing him
