Yemen Ground Invasion By Saudi, Egyptian Troops Imminent

As reported first thing today, while the initial phase of the military campaign against Yemen has been taking place for the past 18 hours and been exclusively one of airborne assaults by forces of the "Decisive Storm" coalition, Saudi hinted at what is coming next following reports that it had built up a massive 150,000 troop deployment on the border with Yemen.

And as expected, moments ago AP reported that Egyptian military and security officials told The Associated Press that the military intervention will go further, with a ground assault into Yemen by Egyptian, Saudi and other forces, planned once airstrikes have weakened the capabilities of the rebels.

SNIP

Three Egyptian military and security officials told The Associated Press that a coalition of countries led by Egypt and Saudi Arabia will conduct a ground invasion into Yemen once the airstrikes have sufficiently diminished the Houthis and Saleh's forces. They said the assault will be by ground from Saudi Arabia and by landings on Yemen's Red and Arabian Sea coasts.

The aim is not to occupy Yemen but to weaken the Houthis and their allies until they enter negotiations for power-sharing, the officials said

I’ve known a few Saudis. Picturing them in combat is difficult.

Same here. But I've heard that Brian Williams will be personally leading the Saudi gunships. That could be a game-changer.

I hope he has some strict orders. If he follows his nose, he'll just end up going in circles.

The Sunni coalition is Saudi Airpower and Money, Egyptian Armor and men...and Pakistani Nukes?

Is that how this is emerging?

If it holds together, formidable.

Iran would do well to back the eff off.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s office said on Thursday any threat to Saudi Arabia would “evoke a strong response” from Islamabad.

Sharif chaired a “high-level meeting” in which he said Pakistan enjoyed close and brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Saudi Arabia and Gulf allies launched military operations including air strikes in Yemen on Thursday, Saudi officials said, to counter Iran-allied forces besieging the south ..

"Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s office said on Thursday any threat to Saudi Arabia would “evoke a strong response” from Islamabad."

This announcement ascertains Iran will develop a nuke weapons capability as their absolute highest strategic priority.

But they'll still sign a deal with the US and Obama will be happy.

When I went to my FOB in February of 2003 it was a Saudi C-130 that flew me there. 6 hours over an ocean of sand.

“This is not our fight.”

It certainly seems so. But have we not wrapped ourselves up in all of it? I think letting this all play out is really the best thing we can do while the Muslim Brotherhood runs America, but it will forever redefine America. We won’t be looked up to as we were. I guess either way, the fundamental transformation of America will go on. When there seems to be no way, God will make a way.

I think that’s all we could do at this point. Until we fire our employees who are destroying our country (have them forcibly removed from the building) we can’t hope to do anything right. Get our own house in order.

"Bout time the Saudis do some of the dirty work to clean up the neighborhood."

The Saudis have often been criticized for being all chiefs and no Indians in the their military, and attempting to outsource any real fighting.

But the Saudi Minister of Defense was recently called to a remote area within the Kingdom, to review what is believed to be an actual Saudi combat soldier. The amazement is palpable.

Upon inspection, he was found to be a personnel specialist who was enamored of military memorabilia, and had purchased a protective vest and helment online. And also some tactical-looking goggles.

So the contract was given to Egypt and Pakistan.
