What are the individual strengths of Scott Walker, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul?

Posted on 04/03/2015 9:45:50 AM PDT by pinochet

1. Rand Paul is strong among libertarian Republicans and anti-war isolationists on foreign policy.

2. Ted Cruz is strong among pro-life evangelicals and those in favor of a hawkish interventionist foreign policy. He is also favored by those who see the elimination of Obama Care as a priority.

3. Scott Walker, as a governor, is favored by those who want someone with executive experience. He stood up against public sector unions, just like Reagan stood up against the air traffic controllers. The unions forced a recall election against Governor Walker but lost. Scott Walker is also favored among supporters of school choice. Scott Walker is also seen as the person who is most likely to oppose amnesty for illegal aliens.

You’re well aware of the national forces, from the national media to Trumka to capital hill leaders, who funded and fueled the armies Scott Walker fought and defeated.

If you compare Walker’s political battles to the political AND judicial battles of Ted Cruz, and do so with an open mind, I think that you may be surprised.

Chris Christie doesn't like unions. Rahm Emanuel doesn't like unions, since the Chicago teachers' union is trying to get him replaced. If that's our litmus test, we need a better one.

And I most certainly do not see Scott Walker as even opposing amnesty, much less as a candidate who will oppose it more forcefully than any other.

Walker is a decent conservative. But we can, and must, do better.

I like Cruz, but have some lingering reservations.

What’s this about his Wife’s ties to the “North American Union” / NAU-enabling CFR task force?

http://christian-heritage-news.com/2015/03/23/what-about-cruz/#comments

During his coming out speech he seemed to really be straining to come accross as “Reganesque”, and as impressive is it was I’m not sure that he entirely pulled it off.

Is Cruz the best we can come up with? Maybe he is.

Can he win with both the GOP-e and the Democrat machines doing their best to destroy him every step of the way?

I’m convinced that the GOP-e would rather see a Hillary or Biden in the WH in ‘16 than any real Constitutional Conservative - especially a Christian.

As someone has already pointed out in retort to my skepticism - hardly anyone thought that Reagan stood a chance of winning, either - so who knows?

Cruz is also the best on illegal immigration, an issue that I think is existential.

Its all moot - surely the fix is in for Hillery to win. Who else can cover for Obama after the first Iranian nukes fall - NYC, Chicago?

He’s “legal” - get over it - “steel” yourself.

Pipe dream of mine: FREEPERS, this election, will concentrate of espousing the virtues of THEIR candidate rather than throwing mud over the other republicans, which gives the enemy fodder -

Yeah, right.

Rand's main strength are his online concern trolls.

Rand Paul's excuse for avoiding the 'religious freedom' law controversy doesn't add up

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

To: danamco; All

You spit out:” Did you know that both MOTHER/Father were Canadian citizens at his birth which naturally also made him a Canadian citizen, hello??? Trying to “steal” election like Hussein did!!!”

*****************

Cruz’s mother, Eleanor Wilson Cruz, was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, and earned an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Rice University in Houston in the 1950s.

Last I knew, Delaware was part of the USA.

She may have also become a citizen of Canada while living there, I don’t know. DUEL citizenship is allowed with Canada - she would REMAIN a US citizen.

If you support another candidate - fine.

But don’t perpetrate lies -
