The outcry over the death of Walter Scott stems from a video, taken by an anonymous bystander,
that depicts police officer Michael Slager shooting at Scott eight times as he flees. In an interview with Time, however, Scott’s brother says that the video may not have come out if the police hadn’t initially tried to paint Slager as innocent.
Anthony Scott told Time that he found the circumstances surrounding his brother’s death, caused after a routine traffic stop, highly suspicious. “When I got there somebody told me that he was gone. And I was like what in the world? What happened? What happened? How did you get killed in a random stop? It just didn’t make any sense to me.”
Slager initially said that he shot Walter Scott out of fear for his life, claiming that he had taken his stun gun, and police performed CPR immediately on the shooting victim. The video, which Scott said he received at a wake earlier this week, showed otherwise:
“He wanted to see what reports were coming from the North Charleston Police Department because of the fact that they may have told the truth,” Scott said in an phone interview from home with TIME Wednesday. “And when they continued with the lies, he said, ‘I have to come forward.’”
…“I was angry. Shocked,” Scott said. “I said, ‘We have to have that.’ So that we could prove it was innocent.”
Scott credits the bystander and the video with getting Slager charged with murder. “I think that if that man never showed the video we would not be at the point that we’re at right now,” he said. “The video tells the truth. It would not be so hard for us to prove that this man was running away when you get shot in your back. I mean how can you defend that?”
The man who filmed the video has not yet been named.
Well, his kids, however many there are, are going to get some fat pay now.
I can hear Mr. Potter telling George Bailey, “ why George, you’re worth more dead than alive”.
In just a quick moment, the cop became jury, judge, and executioner.
He (the cop) apparently was screaming “Put your hands behind your back!!!” to an unconscious or already dead man. Made for good theater though.
It’s a damned shame that some cops, although they make it through the training, turn out to be just trigger-happy.
At first it was normal, the cop was put on administrative leave and the shooting would be looked into and found to be justified.....and then the video came in on Monday.
Now it's Walter Scott.

Perhaps he heard somewhere that cops may well just kill you and your dog... Hell, I’m a rich, white almost seventy year old disabled veteran and who has only had two encounters with the law. Both were speeding tickets BTW, and I’m terrified of cops...
Because there was no video in Ferguson. I am just saying that now that is what they are going to say. That the only difference between this and Ferguson is that one was caught on video and the other wasn't.

He was getting tased. I would run like h@## to get away from a taser. I don’t care what they pulled me over for I would run from a taser. Those things are a nightmare.
Why is running away a death penalty offense?

A CSBN video showed just that. He still had the wires in him when he started to run away. Like a fishing line....
You post sounds just great...but how do you think that this would go without the video? OR without the witness? I’ve been contemplating how one would explain FIVE SHOTS IN THE BACK. The only way that would get “fixed” would be if the medical examiners were in cahoots and the body got “accidentally” cremated.
You might say, “that it was a reflex”. OK, fine. Was handcuffing a fatally wounded person a reflex too? Or planting the taser near him? Or waiting for him to die?
I don’t care if they put that cop in Supermax or not, the guards and prisoners will probably fight each other for the privilege of getting at this jerk. I’d give him a very unhappy month, in there, max.
