The Tuition Equality Act of 2013 was supposed to help young people convert their noblest aspirations into practical realities. Particularly the so-called DREAMers: At last, higher education would be within the reach of these undocumented immigrants, thanks to a prudent government decision which allowed them to pay in-state tuition rates.
But it has turned out to be a false promise and phony premise.
Gov. Christie vetoed the part of the law that would have granted these unauthorized students the same financial aid received by other New Jersey students, so most of them are out of luck - and in a state that has as many as 550,000 unauthorized immigrants, that is absurdly shortsighted.
New Jersey already pays $250,000 for every kid from K through 12, including the undocumented kids. It also gives out another 82,000 TAG grants to some of them when they head off to college.
But the fact that none of those TAG awards go to DREAMers makes the message clear: "We've invested a quarter-million on each one of them - then we basically ask the undocumented students to drop off a cliff," says Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic).
Even in a state as strapped as this one, New Jersey must invest in future assets like infrastructure, medical research, and the development of young minds. It's about using all our human resources, and to neglect them now is asking for failure later.

There is a reason why NJ collects tolls when you LEAVE the state.
Deportation is the cure.......
Hey, where do I sign up to be an "undocumented worker", because being a "documented (a.k.a. taxpaying) worker sucks!

It sounds like the dopes at the Newark Star-Ledger never figured this whole thing out. As I said back in 2013 when Christie signed that Tuition Equality Act into law, there was never any intention of turning New Jersey's illegal aliens into wards of the state through their college years. The whole purpose of that law was to prop up the enrollment numbers at New Jersey colleges that have seen an alarming decline in enrollments as more and more people flee the state. In other words, the plan was to make the illegal aliens the last ones here before they shut the lights off and the state goes out of business.
If these illegal aliens expect the state to give them the discounted tuition rates and subsidize the tuition as well, then there's no point in even having the law in the first place. The state would be better off buying them bus tickets to any other state that would be willing to take them in.
The Star-Ledger editorial board should put its money where its mouth is and resign en masse in favor of illegal immigrants.
That is basically where they are headed anyway; an increasing number of NJ residents don’t read/write English, and the Star-Ledger will go the way of the dodo. The Americans that remain will be low-information types that will get their news from The Daily Show or TMZ.

A thread last week —#3277042—stated that the Social Security administration has declared that citizens of Puerto Rico can now get DISABILITY payments from SS because : They DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH-—they mostly speak Spanish.!!!!
Considering how many south of the border persons Obama is luring here—does that disability ruling also apply to the illegal immigrants he is importing???
Does this also apply to EBONICS???
No9 wonder Social Security is going broke!!!
Our governor Christie just mentioned something in a speech that I knew was coming: means-testing for Social Security (as well as increasing retirement age to 69).
All the childless Americans who thought they were evading income taxes with 401k contributions will find themselves stiffed on SS; they’ll have the same retirement as those who saved nothing.
