White House agrees to give Congress a say on an Iran deal

Bowing to pressure from Republicans and his own party, President Barack Obama on Tuesday relented to a compromise empowering Congress to reject the emerging nuclear pact with Iran.

The rare and reluctant agreement between the president and the Republican-led Congress came after the White House maintained for weeks that congressional interference could jeopardize sensitive negotiations with Tehran. But lawmakers refused to back down from their insistence that Congress have a formal role in what could be a historic nuclear weapons deal.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously approved the compromise bill shortly after White House spokesman Josh Earnest conveyed the president’s decision to sign it.

“Maybe they saw the handwriting on the wall,” House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, said after the White House dropped its opposition. …

Corker is saying that the media is being played. He says that he has not spoken to anyone from the White House. He also said he now has over the 67 votes to over ride a veto. I emailed Corker and told him Full Speed Ahead. Make Obama sign the Bill!

Barry: “Congress will have a say.”

Mitch: “Peep! Peep! Peep!”

The words of a RINO have credibility, you say?

I’ll believe what Mark Levin is currently saying, instead.

Yeah, “give Congress”. And some people here wonder why I wrote “SMH”. Never mind the Senate, incidentally.

I haven’t heard what Mark is saying, but it is Corker’s bill. If he says he hasn’t talked to the White House I believe him over Josh Earnest any day.

They realize the Senate was close to getting a veto over-ride majority which would have been humiliating for the Preezy.

The credibility margin between Corker and Earnest is quite thin.

I’m just saying, Corker would know if anyone had contacted him about his own bill. The White House is lying to protect Obama’s pride from suffering a veto overide.

Corker says he has over the needed 67 votes and that this so called agreement is B.S.

Whatever Obama does with or for Iran, the issue is NOT that he will let Congress will have a say in the matter. The issue is that it is illegal if the United States Senate does not ratify it.

I think it would be a good thing for the Republic candidates to frequently push the principle.

The White House "agreed" to nothing. A 19-0 vote out of committee made it clear that there was a veto-proof majority of legislators ready to deliver a devastating rebuke to this anti-Constitutional President. The WH did nothing more than concede a fait accompli to save itself from humiliation.

Levin says Congress stripped the bill of anything meaningful. The Senate sold us out.

Golly. Thanks Obama.

He will “listen” but ignore. Then, when a smoking mushroom cloud is over Baghdad Obama can say “You see, if it weren’t for those meddling republicans this never would have happened.”

Obama knows Iran will get nukes. Obama will do nothing to prevent it. Obama just wants to say “I made a deal with Iran.”
