Marco Rubio announced his candidacy for presidency of the United States at the Freedom Tower in Miami on Monday, highlighting his family’s hardscrabble immigrant roots, embracing traditional values but also vowing to usher in a “new American century.”
As a matter of political pragmatism, is there any convincing reason Rubio shouldn’t be the Republican to take on Hillary Clinton in 2016? Because when it comes to natural political talent, it unlikely the GOP can do better.
For starters, Rubio is the most compelling speaker in the Republican field.
Sen. Mike Lee says Rubio “can bring grown men to tears with emotion.” This is something voters value. And judging from yesterday’s performance, Rubio’s speeches can be infused with an emotional quality that much of the prefabricated rhetoric we hear does not have. Not only do you sense that his belief in American exceptionalism is genuine, but that his populist sensibilities will allow him to credibly broach the subject of inequality – mostly, because he has a captivating family story to lean on.
Let’s face it, even if Rubio is overrated, he’s probably the kind of consensus candidate GOP primary voters are going to have to settle on, anyway.
Other than his futile shot at immigration reform, Rubio has been reliably conservative. The Jeb Bush candidacy, driven by oodles of cash but little popular support, makes Rubio seem more palatable, while the Cruz candidacy, almost exclusively propelled by grassroots, makes him seem less severe. The money and votes will gravitate to whoever can win – if, that is, the person is somewhat ideologically acceptable to rank and file.
As Politico points out:
An NBC/Wall Street Journal poll last month reflected that upside among the rank-and-file. More Republicans, 56 percent, said they could back Rubio than any other candidate, including Bush (49 percent).

Rubio can't be Bush's VP choice. They're both from the same state.

And that’s it, I wont even consider for any of the other losers like Santorum, The Huckster, Crispy Cream, or the Donald.
A Cuban Republican isn’t gonna win playing the Hispanic race card—short of giving the country away via amnesty—which he’s already tried his hardest to do.
How’s he polling in his home state anyway?
I don’t buy the mantra he made a mistake on immigration. After the fight during the Bush years, you would have to be living under a rock to not understand American frustration with illegal immigration, and border security. His mistake was thinking he had more influence than he actually did. He thought, as did McCain, Graham, and Schumer, that he could pull enough conservatives to get that bill passed. He perpetuated the same myth that was used during the Bush administration until the bill was so badly destroyed he looked silly trying to continue the charade.
How can I believe anything he says? He is just like the Republicans we have been electing for years. He talks conservative, but when it matters, he governs liberal. In my book he is on the same shelf with Christie, and Bush, he won’t get my vote.

It’s pretty simple really. In a dangerous world who do you want negotiating with world leaders, Ted Cruz or “Potsie” Rubio??
The Constitution prohibits the President and VP from being from the same state.
But, theoretically, one or the other could switch residences. Would probably have to be Bush, since it would complicate things for Rubio being a sitting Senator from FL.
But Bush could easily switch residences to TX or ME, where he has history and strong family ties. Like how Cheney switched from TX to WY in 2000 to run with GWB.
I don’t think that Rubio is really running for President. I think he’s running for VP. Same thing with Jindal too, imho. It’ll be interesting to see how they behave during the campaign.
Oh, I forgot about Jindal. I would place him near Rubio on the list (near the bottom, but still in consideration)
But, yes, I agree, I think Jindal and Rubio are both running for the VP slot.

I totally agree that Rubio is a liar and for many years has been doing everything he can to usher in amnesty. But I have to disagree with one thing you wrote. As far as I can remember, Marco Rubio has never been FL Sec of State. He did most of his sabotage work for illegals in the FL House when he was Speaker of House of Representatives in Florida.
He’s lied and pretended to be TEA party while never bothering to mention what he did in the FL House. He lied and pretended to be against amnesty while running as the republican nominee for the Senate. Once elected senator, he continued to lie after joining the gang of 8, and partnering with Mark Zuckerberg and Chuck Schumer to discredit conservatives and all defenders of US sovereignty. And for those who believe that his traitorous behavior has been reformed, he just joined with Bob Corker in an attempt to subvert constitutional law. They both worked together in order to make it easy for Obama to sell us out on Iran.
I’ll take Cruz, thank you, the guy who memorized the Constitution and went around orating about it.
You want my vote, GOP; you earn my vote.

The GOP has done nothing to earn our votes. Seriously, does anyone believe the party will suddenly turn conservative and change for the better? We have been deceived again and again. The Gutless Old Party is what it is.
No matter who gets the Republican nomination they will be hamstrung and neutralized by the deeply embedded interests that control this feckless party.
