Ted Cruz raised $4.3 million in first 9 days

WASHINGTON (CNN) —Ted Cruz raised $4.3 million in the first nine days of his presidential campaign, according to a federal campaign finance record filed on Wednesday.

Cruz raked in contributions from some of Texas' biggest Republican donors, but also won over the small-dollar donors nationwide who backed him in his 2012 rise-from-nowhere.

Cruz, who defied conventional wisdom by launching his campaign about a week left in the reporting period, ended March with a little more than $3.9 million on hand, according to a Federal Election Commission report. As the only major candidate with an official campaign as of last month, Cruz was the sole candidate who had to file a campaign FEC report.

Some of Cruz's more notable financial supporters include Bob McNair, the owner of the Houston Texans and a heavyweight GOP donor, and San Antonio businessman Red McCombs. Cruz also transferred over about $250,000 from his Senate campaign committee to his new presidential account.

Many of the Texas Republican's fiercest backers are expected to contribute to the super PACs who can raise donations on a far bigger scale. Some of those PACs said they had already raised $31 million as of this month -- the Cruz campaign only hopes to raise $40 to $50 million over the course of the entire campaign.

I just donated to Ted Cruz.

First time I felt secure in donating to a winning cause in a long, long time.

Let's Cruz to 2016!

the Cruz campaign only hopes to raise $40 to $50 million over the course of the entire campaign.

To give you some idea of how Mitt Romney ruined two election cycles, in 2008 he not only raised the first big funds, but he made it clear that he would spend his own money, and he did spend about 45 million dollars of his own.

Having his own money multiplied it's value because he did not have ups and downs between fund raising and didn't hit slumps, instead he could access his wealth when needed, to keep his vast machine running smoothly and with no lay offs or hiccups, or loss of spending and advertising momentum.

Poor McCain and Huckabee were left with nothing much/most of the time, and were just alone and staying in cheap hotels at times.

Obviously, money isn't everything, which is something to remember when Jeb starts bringing in the truck loads of cash.

I can’t wait to see how 50 million will play against Hillary’s goal of 1.5 Billion. Grant it, she needs a billion, since she is an empty suit. Cruz won’t need money for that reason, but 50 million is a joke. Heck, fifteen years ago, Hillary spent 25 million to win a senate seat in NY. That would triple today.

I think Ted has set the impossibly low goal for our consumption, so that when he blows the top out of that goal, and we will be ecstatic. He needs more than 50 million.

You are probably on what is known as the hard list - voters who regularly go to the polls. Campaign workers often work for several candidates and use the same mailing lists. Over time it becomes ‘one big happy’ family of Republicans.

I started getting a number of emails when I first started going to the sites. Have since hit the "unsubscribe" links and am only getting the Cruz campaign emails now, which is what I want.
