William Shatner’s $30 Billion Kickstarter Campaign to Save California David Pogue April 17, 2015

William Shatner. Wow. He’s 84 years old, looks 65, and juggles a schedule that would exhaust a team of 10. Book projects, TV projects, tech projects, horse-riding projects, charity projects. And his willingness to embrace the tech world is impressive; he’s got YouTube channels, he’s conducted Kickstarter projects, and he has a huge Twitter presence: more than 2 million followers. (He’s tweeted 30,000 times so far — and yes, it’s really him.)

The hour he spent with me in a Yahoo Tech Mix interview wasn’t even enough to scratch the surface.

Yea, why go all the way to Seattle when the Columbia River is 200 miles closer. Is his plan to pipe water over the Columbia River?

"how many desalinization plants would much money that build?"

The political/regulator folks who own the beaches would love it.

Wikipedia (as accessed on April 15, 2015)
Cogeneration
Cogeneration is the process of using excess heat from electricity generation for another task: in this case the production of potable water from seawater or brackish groundwater in an integrated, or "dual-purpose", facility where a power plant provides the energy for desalination. Alternatively, the facility's energy production may be dedicated to the production of potable water (a stand-alone facility), or excess energy may be produced and incorporated into the energy grid (a true cogeneration facility). Cogeneration takes various forms, and theoretically any form of energy production could be used. However, the majority of current and planned cogeneration desalination plants use either fossil fuels or nuclear power as their source of energy. Most plants are located in the Middle East or North Africa, which use their petroleum resources to offset limited water resources. The advantage of dual-purpose facilities is they can be more efficient in energy consumption, thus making desalination a more viable option for drinking water.[16][17]

I think that will be a future point of contention between the US and Canada.

To boldly spend where no man has before...

Only $ 30 Billion ?

Geezz , the Keystone Pipeline would have cost only $ 6 or 7 billion and would have gone to a good cause.

Hey William Shatner ?

You pay the cost of that water pipeline with your own Hollywood’s money out of your own pockets AND help get the Keystone Pipeline build, then it’s ago... Got it Kirk ?

Would have been cheaper and done by now if they would have built the Klamath river diversion and reservoir which would have served the existing and future water needs (although the known 7 (total) Delta smelt would have taken a serious hit).
