It’s not the voters as much as Sons of Howard Baker a GOP were always mild on social issues
Unlike the Deep South Dixiecrats or woulda been Dixiecrats who were baptized in social conservatism and became GOP after LBJ took Dems hard left on race etc
Tennessee never went through that as distinctly...the last state to secede and first re admitted
GOP always had game here
But look at 60
Tennessee went moderate Nixon and Mississippi went hard south Harry Byrd from Virginia
Yet in 64 when a serious social conservative in Goldwater ran TN went for libtard LBJ and Mississipp and most Deep South states went Goldwater
The Deep South was Barry’s base.....same as todays electoral board on issues
TN GOP is Belle Meade Green Hills and Brentwood and Germantown Collierville and Lookout mt and Farragut based with moderate GOP money and hierarchy
That’s where the power lies
They call the shots
The Freddie Smith and Frist family and Ingrams and Mike Curb sorts.....
Only Andrew Miller ....dad and son...buck the tide
The voting GOP is more conservative but we don’t control nominating
And we compete stupidly against one another like Diane Blacks or Scott DeJarlais seats
Moderate GOP are never to be outdone.....see Mississippi
It’s even worse there the disconnect but it’s the same description power wise
Is there any red state without this dichotomy
Even Texas has it
