On the hunt for the presidency, Jeb Bush adopts a 'caveman' diet

Jeb Bush is eating like a caveman, and he has literally shrunk in size. The former Florida governor, expected to seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016, is on the popular Paleo diet, which is based on what are believed to be the eating habits of the Paleolithic hunters and gatherers. For Paleo practitioners, lean meat and fruits and vegetables are in and processed foods, dairy products and sugary delights are out.

My bride of over 50 years grew up in the Midwest and rhubarb was like a week. She and her family love it.

My wife roasts them, I cook them on the grill.

Our chef son said to throw whole beets on top of the hot charcoal after you cook the meal and let the heat do its thing and roll them over about every 30 minutes.

I have a glass of red wine each night with my dinner and a smaller one after dinner sometimes.

Careful with the red wine....

Here’s a complete list of the wine brands that have allegedly been poisoning you with arsenic

Do you do something to prepare the kale? Or do you eat it like salad greens?

My wife says it is super healthy, but I just cannot develop a taste for it. She's served it in a salad and cooked them like greens. Hated it both times.

Maybe you know some secret. I generally love vegetables, but not kale...

Good to see I am not alone, though I have a unique take on the Paleo diet (everyone should figure/taylor what works for them). Basically I go to local grocery store/restaurant salad bar and get the meat and vegetables in 2 large to-go trays (about $4.99 a pound) and eat that for the next 24 hours. I’m down about 50 lbs since last September, though I haven’t weighed since November, just last week this young fella I knew from the gym told me he thought I had a great transformation-truth be told I probably worked out less, but I could better control my appetite and already had been working out regularly for years.

My version has been relatively easy to maintain consistently, and even when I think I am not making progress, I just say wait till the end of the week-and sure enough there is a visible difference. I won’t go into more detail unless someone wants it, but I will add my favorite ‘Primal Living In the Modern World’ web site, there’s always plenty of research and tips;

you may want to check out the success stories too;

and here is how I found it (there is a link to the f.lux program that cuts down on lights your computer screen by filtering out the right light rays I would highly recommend too);

Just had baby kale and 2 hard boiled eggs for a quick breakfast yesterday, I thought it was good compared to the other alternatives for spinach; the idea being you want nutrient dense and not regular lettuce which is not really so filling.

Yes, I really like http://www.marksdailyapple.com/

There is so much we can do to improve our health and appearance.

Vigorous exercise is really key.

My wife and I make it a priority and can’t imagine how our friends and coworkers do nothing.

When they get heart attacks or complain about the effects of age, I am sympathetic, but think — OK, maybe that is because you haven’t done ANY exercise the last 30 years.

Here is my fitness blog:

Real Quick(work-bound)-there is a book called ‘Spark’ that makes the correlation about exercise and intelligence, I do the wind sprints and moderate weight lifting(have enough mass) and it was the show ‘Extreme Weight loss’ where one participant had a concussion early on and still lost 100 lbs in his first 90 days (of a clinical setting) where I realized how much diet does play a role in weight loss, and I couldn’t do it that fast, I lost 25 in 90 days. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for sharing. Very interesting information. I have tried many different diet, but Whacking carbs and keeping to protein really makes a difference. The pounds come off, I am not hungry and most importantly, the inches drop off.

I don't eat fruit or certain vegetables.

Yeah, I live near St Bens now, up by Montrose and Wilson.

Old Irving is further west, by Irving but past Pulaski (or Crawford if you are really old).

We eat Kale in salads as the sole green or with other greens.

My wife puts kale on pizza, in pastas and other foods. I put it in my home made stews about 10 minutes before turning off the heat and pulling the stew pot off the burners. She is known as the salad queen among our friends and relatives, and kale is part of her salads except her Caesar.

I eat it by itself with a sea salt and olive oil spray.

Also, I spray the leaves with olive oil and put sea salt and pepper on the leaves and grill it after I grill the main course for about a minute per side.

One of our relatives does the same prep like I do before grilling. Then she puts the seasoned leaves into a dehydrator to make kale chips.

Nothing will work if you don’t like it. My wife and most relatives like it, and I love it anyway.

So go to a farmer’s market and try the various kales, raw.

If you don’t like them, try another type until you find one you like. The try the one/ones you like in salads and other presentations.

One of our grandkids doesn’t like Kale, but he loves Chard, a Kale cousin.

There has to be some things in green stuff like Kale that makes us like it or hate it. If you hate it don’t worry and try some other green like asparagus. We eat asparagus grilled and wrapped with proscuto or just grilled. My wife sprays asparagus with olive oil and seasons with salt and pepper and cooks in a cookie sheet on top of parchment paper in her convection oven with salmon, pork, chicken or beef with other veggies.

Good luck.

BOL re arugula. My entire family likes arugula, the only thing we have in common with Obozzo.

A month ago I planted two types of arugula. One, the entire family likes, the other got turned over yesterday to help new tomato plants grow in that water trough filled with our growing compost/soil mixture.

The turned over arugula was sour/bitter, and then it really tasted bad if you got past that part.

My wife and I are in our 70’s. If we don’t like a food product, we don’t eat it. There are too many wonderful foods we can raise, buy from local farmers, get at a farmers’s market and even at a super market.

Thank you for your nice reply.

I learned something... I didn't know there were different kinds of kale.

I like your idea of sampling at a farmer's market. I'll try that to see if there is one I might like.
