All buffalo shot and killed (Herd loose in Albany NY)
Times Union ^ | 24 April 2014 | Bob Gardinie

All 15 bison that roamed across a section of town for the past several hours were shot and killed by family members who owned the animals Friday.

The center of attention was at a creek off of Willowbrook Avenue as authorities tried to round up the herd that escaped from a farm in Rensselaer County, crossed the Hudson River and bolted across the state Thruway.

One of the hunters — "hired guns" — appeared to have a heated exchange with Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple after the gunfire started and was taken into custody. Apple said he was concerned about possible harm to people in the crowded area from the rifle shots. The man was later released.

The Buffalo Bills [kind of a play on words] were originally called the Buffalo Bison.

It may not be able to be sold. But the family and friends will eat well. And I bet they have lots of friends that will offer to take the meat off their hands. For free. And then give them a $4/pound “tip”.

Wegman’s only goes as far east as Syracuse in New York. The closest one to me is 45 minutes west of here (Rome). They’ve gone to Buffalo, the southern tier, and to other states, but not past Syracuse.

“our minor league baseball team is the Buffalo Bisons”

What about the redundancies? Or the tautologies?

Since we’re talking New York they should send
the wings to Buffalo.

When you think about it, when it comes to the Buffalo Bills, our mascot/logo centers on the city name and not on the team nickname. No one even thinks about what a ‘Buffalo Bill’ is. The name, which came out of the old All-American Football Conference of the 1940’s was a reference/homage to Buffalo Bill Cody, who, of course, was a cowboy/indian fighter/showman from the nineteenth century. Logically, the logo should be of mustachioed indian fighter, but it is not. It is a charging Buffalo.

It’s you. Buffalo are smart and sneaky. They will wait just out of sight for a chance to run an open gate. And a gunshot or a collision with a truck are about the only way to stop one that is already running. If they have calves they will back into a circle and dare you to come close enough to stomp your butt.

And there’s no waste in this case. They’ll be dressed and hung and shortly turned into burger which is the only practical way to eat the meat. And it’s low
fat which ought to exite the food nazis.

It’s all in a days work at the ranch. And they make decent leather also.

There should be a lot of BUFFALO Steaks and BURGERS now.

And wings.

And wings.

Yeah, and I wish somebody would explain to me how such huge critters have such little bitty wings. You wouldn't think they could get off the ground with those things, but when you see a flock of them shooting through the sky you really want to hope you parked your car in a safe place.
