GOP presidential hopeful and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has called on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to return all donations made by foreign governments to the Clinton Foundation amid the growing scandal engulfing the Democratic candidates campaign following allegations made in a recent book.
"The Clinton Foundation collected tens of millions of dollars from foreign governments including donors who had business interests with the State Department while Clinton was Secretary, Cruz said in a statement released to the press on Friday. She made decisions in that capacity that likely benefited the same people who were giving large donations to the foundation."
The statement went on, "At the very least, these revelations present a clear conflict of interest. I call on Hillary Clinton to return the donations from foreign governments. Until she does, how can the American people trust her with another position of power?"
Assertions that came to light in a soon-to-be-released book, "Clinton Cash: The Untold Story of How and Why Foreign Governments and Businesses Helped Make Bill and Hillary Clinton Rich," by Peter Schweizer, claim that foreign entities who made payments to the Clinton Foundation and to Bill Clinton in the form of high speaking fees were able to receive favors while Hillary headed up the U.S. State Department between 2009 and 2013.
One example in Schweizer's book is a free-trade agreement between the U.S. and Colombia that went into effect in 2012 and benefited a major Clinton Foundation donor's investments.
An Associated Press analysis of Clinton Foundation donations between 2001 and 2015 found that governments and agencies from 16 nations previously gave direct grants of between $55 million and $130 million. Now, however, donations will only be allowed from the governments of Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom leaving the Dominican

I have a question. How often do these foreign governments donate to charitable foundations? Especially, charitable foundations outside of their own country?
It seems like an unusual transaction unless they were looking for quid pro quo.
If McCain had gone after Obobo in this manner, he would have slaughtered him.
She can’t give them back, because they’ve been mostly spent on jetting the family around. A good deal of the money is gone. Besides, she resigned from the Foundation for her run. So, any decision is up to Chelsea... and Bill. Bill, that greedy ole’ horndog, ain’t giving it back, no way, no how.
Never realized Ted had such a wild sense of humor. Is he seriously asking the Clintons to give money back? It would be easier to get a steak from a pit bull's jaws.
Cruz knows where the nail is for his hammer. I think this to be a brilliant move, and he says it without sounding overtly partisan.
If you’re going to run for President , SHUT DOWN THE CLINTON FOUNDATION !!!!!!!
< Because money is fungible, we are in effect paying to be lobbied. There are about a dozen countries that do the same thing.
I'd like to see Congress pass a bill stating t hat ANY country that receives non-military US aid may NOT employ a lobbyist in Washington.
I stand with Ted
Better yet, if she really wants to be the champion of the little guy, then she would drop out of the presidential race, go down to Baltimore and donate ALL her campaign donations to all those businesses that were looted, burned down and help rebuild those neighborhoods in Baltimore.
Why restrict it to NON-military aid?
From my initial investigation the answer to your question is SELDOM and NEVER in regard to a foundation such as the Clinton's were running.
“Is he seriously asking the Clintons to give money back?”
Hell yes! And he’s doing it precisely because he knows it’ll never happen. Cruz has now made this a negative issue for Hillary that will dog her until doomsday. THIS kind of bold attack is how Republicans can and should win. Both Romney and McCain ran disgraceful “i’m a nice guy” campaigns. Those kinds of campaigns don’t cut it against Alinsky/Commie foes. Going for the jugular does.
That is like asking George Soros to pay his taxes.
Giving the donations back is good. But did the cash already pay for what the donors wanted?
