ROGERSVILLE, Tenn. Meat dating to the year of President Obamas first inauguration was served to students in some Hawkins County, Tennessee schools last week.
Hawkins County Commissioner Michael Herrell was alerted after a cafeteria worker sent him a photo of the pork roast they used for school meals was from 2009.
The 6-year-old meat had been frozen and then was thawed for meal preparation, according to WCYB.
Herrell said the photo was taken at Joseph Rogers Primary School where the staff decided not to serve the meat. However, it was served at other schools.
They’re lucky. They usually charge extra for aged beef.
Another Odd Couple line, “It’s brown which means it used to be green, so that makes it orange juice.”
Is this just mystery meat, which has been around for ages, or Michelle’s nutritional recommendation? Hard to blame her for a particular school deciding whether to spend money on food or staff. Clearly, they saved on this “food,” enabling them to dissipate the budget in more meaningful (/S) ways.
Also, did they test the old meat, by seeing if a dog would eat it or turn up his nose at it? That’s always a tell.
MO’s diet:
If it tastes good, spit it out!!
Well as long as it was a heathy six year old.
“Meat dating to the year of President Obamas first inauguration was served ....”
It was the first black-themed lunchmeat, in honor of our new Atty General. I see nothing inappropriate. And I bet females, or at least those who claim to be females served the meat and quite possibly removed it from its wrapping. Let’s just call it “commeaterative”.
I serve my six y/o meat all the time....
Who is in charge of rotating product?
i was making a really bad joke. That they served a six year old as meat. now you’ll forever ignore my comments lol
Haven't heard that term since my military days in 70's & 80's. Brings back memories of midrats for those on 2400 to 0400 watches. If you have to ask, you don't want to know.
Maybe it was meat from a 6-year-old horse?
:)
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Does that mean we’re both sick?
Very :)
Meh. We have stuff that’s at least three years old in the freezer at any given time. We rotate, but there are no dates on the meat. The meat has lot numbers, and there are three different numbers in the freezer right now. One’s from this year, one two years ago (didn’t get meat last year) and one from before that. We’re still here. It loses flavor, but it’s not bad. Just double wrapped in butcher paper. Kept at, or below, zero degrees.
Did the poor little six year old get a chance to beg for his life? Or was just a ‘surprise’ to him?
Not so sure, one of my dogs will eat almost anything he is offered.
“” mystery meat”
