'Trust me' isn't going to turn Latino vote for Cruz, GOP
Chicago Tribune ^ | May 1, 2015 | Mary Sanchez

Posted on 05/02/2015 1:04:12 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

"....Like his fellow GOP presidential hopeful, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, Cruz cannot count on a certain rapport with Latino voters simply because he is Latino himself. Trust doesn't work that way, not in life and not in politics. Hispanic voters are weary of being targeted as a desirable voter demographic to be flattered but not much more. They can spot the phony.

To many critics, Cruz has tried to court two mistresses: tea party conservatives, on the one hand, and Hispanic voters whom he views as ready for takeover by the GOP.

Cruz believes, with some justification, that Latinos are fundamentally conservative. Like many immigrant groups, they tend to honor faith, tradition and family. Latino communities stand out for their enterprising spirit, and the large number of small business owners among them are likely receptive to the GOP's pro-business talking points.

But that doesn't mean that candidates won't have to answer the tough questions about where they stand on significant issues. And if anything was laid out firmly in Cruz' appearance at the Latino Chamber, it was that immigration policy is a problem for him. He has to address it forthrightly, honestly and without wavering, almost as a litmus test before important stands on jobs and the economy can be taken seriously.

Chamber CEO Javier Palomarez pressed Cruz on the point. He noted that Cruz' first campaign ads in English had mentioned his strong opposition to the Affordable Care Act and the executive actions President Obama took on immigration. Meanwhile, his first ad in Spanish left out these points, instead focusing on touching memories of his father's immigration from Cuba. Why, Palomarez asked, was the message different?"....

[evangelicals-looking-for-walker-to-do-nothing-in-2016-election]

Walker didn’t speak up for Christians regarding the Indiana and Arkansas Religious Freedom Bills. Could it be he was afraid the issue might pop up in Wisconsin?

TED CRUZ, on the other hand, made a consistent stand for the U.S. Constitution regarding religious freedom in the workplace.

Are you paid by the Walker campaign to repeat the same pro-Walker and anti-Cruz talking points over and over and over and over and over again. For several weeks you bring up almost identical articles and then post over and over and over and over again the same talking points. Guess they get their money’s worth but it is getting very boring, very predictable, and no longer meaningful.

Wifey and I have had our disagreements over the years, but she is not anti-Cruz just pro-Walker, as is her right.

I'm on Cruz control, but I'm not anti Walker.

Reno, if you don't like her posts, don't read them, is anyone forcing you to participate in this thread?

Mook.

Just like a progressive in an argument, a barrage of nebulous questions in an attempt to impugn a message or to misdirect from it.

Did I not say that you are entitled to your opinion just as I am to mine?

Reno made a salient point of OBSERVATION and I just reinforced it with your methods just exactly as it was with Rick Perry.

Hey, we get it already. You are all in with Walker.

Now, so what?

If you think that the endless barrage of the same stuff over and over again all laundered by you is the Ichi-Ban of the total discussion, I ain’t buying it and that is ONLY my opinion.

I don’t mind the conversation (I thought that’s what FR was for).

Just don’t attack me personally for bringing it to the forum (which is what started this pile on).

Walker is sucking up a lot of oxygen.

I get it.

Time will tell how effective the Indiana and Arkansas laws are. I imagine they will be tested before the year is up and Christians businesses will be singled out for their beliefs.

A lot of the anti-Cruz, anti-Walker talk from ‘Latinos’ of Ms Sanchez’ persuasion is intentionally obfuscated with the generalization that melds legal immigration and illegal aliens. You read her article that is supposed to convey real substantive discomfort some ‘Latinos’ have for Cruz or Walker but it never really actually says ‘illegals’ are what they are concerned about.

Her cite for how many ‘Latinos’ have benefitted from ACA vaguely implies this be referencing Obama’s actions to deliver legality to undocumented immigrants (they’ll never say illegal aliens) hits at the underlying purpose of her article.

But in the end, it’s largely intentional confusion that muddies the water and brings to light what I think is a natural ethnic affinity that some have here to allow illegal aliens to stay here and make them legal - even when there is no value added.

The sad thing is the weaselly way you happily agreed with me about not attacking other candidates and going after the Christie/Bush bunch only to turn around and go full bore scumbag.

Screw you and your candidate.

Thank you.

You get it.

But I’ll spell it out for some others who want to continue “vetting” Scott Walker on the issues but quickly roll over and cover their eyes and ears when they find that their candidate holds or has held similar positions, or won’t clarify their positions.

That’s why I post back up links.

I do want Walker to be a top tier candidate and hash it out with the others. I never saw my advocacy as a big secret on FR, or to be considered a plot to undermine Sen. Cruz (who I supported in the TX Senate race - voted for - and posted articles in support of).

This dust up on this thread was started to deflect from what I posted in Post #1. Which, that last time I looked, no one has commented on.

Who is she kidding. That Latino vote is a strawman that Republicans use as an excuse to stay on the illegal bandwagon. They know it. We know it.

“Rubio: ‘There Is No Right to Illegally Immigrate’”

Who does Rubio think he is kidding? He is an absolute liar with zero credibility on the issue.

Then apparently you skimmed past my post #48. It was all about the article by Ms. Sanchez.

The only problem is the delivery. Can we kill the messenger if the messenger tries to suck up whatever air is left in the room? No we don’t. With no air left in the room, the messenger will eventually stop.

Walker sucking up a lot of oxygen only tells me there is an overabundance of CO2 left and that is where we, who are not all in, are raising our concerns.

If you are taking my retorts as “attacks” maybe you ought to consider what the other three fingers are doing to you as you point that finger at us.

My overriding point to the observation of Reno is only that I see a headline posted by you and I instantly can assume with credibility that at least the first, if not more of the immediate subsequent postings are also by you without any debate at all.

Cool the jets already and let the debate begin on your opening statement and not the filibuster tact that looks like you are arguing with yourself.

My great Uncle used to use a host of what I later learned were learning moments to have me think about what he was saying long after he said them. He was wise enough to know that the “light bulb” moment would not happen immediately but they eventually would.

They all stated with “A wise man once said;”

My #1 that did hit me right away was, you’ll never learn anything with your mouth open.

#2 You NEVER get a second chance at making a first impression.

He was far more wise than I had ever imagined at the time. I miss him terribly, he died in 1969.

Many of your “attackers” are only those, who either obtained an education before our public schools turned to total crap or were schooled in private institutions or like me in military dependent schools all over the world, who were taught critical thinking and deductive reasoning.

We get it, we got it a long time ago and your obsessive pro Walker and especially anti Cruz posts are like fingernails on a chalkboard. We are offering our opinion to you that all we have to do is leave the room and close the door behind us.

In that case, we all lose because we don’t care to hear it anymore even if you do have a broke clock or blind squirrel moment while we are not listening.

As for the debate, please let it happen without arguing with yourself first, digest all of the countering debate, then formulate your arguments. It is far more appealing.

May God bless you for your enthusiasm as well as USS Alaska for defending you, as he should.

Backup your anti-Cruz assertion.

If my pro-Walker posts "grate," it can only be because he is a solid guy and will give a good showing of himself in the coming months (as he has in Wisconsin the last 4+ years).
