Aside from the pure happiness of welcoming a child, the honoring of this birth represents the continuation of tradition and it is a link to our past.
England is our mother country, we speak the language, and we would not be the country we are today without her. Most people who can trace at least one of their family lines to early America can pretty much be sure that there is a considerable amount of Brit in them.
Yes, we broke away from the monarchy, but the history of the monarchy is our history, too. Think Henry the VIII and his break from the Catholic Church and the historic results of that. Think of his daughter Elizabeth and her reign, and the list goes on.
While the monarchy is merely representative today, this baby is a continuation of the representation of a significant force in world history and I, for one, am sharing in the joy of her birth.
shhhhhhh,,,, my 2 GrandSon’s Listned to the Jump Master in the Sky and Jumped in Just under 3 Hrs.
No. It will be a curse to name her Diana. She will be betrayed and persecuted.
It would be nice to see Charles and the Rottweiler choke every time they use her name.
Do you have shag carpeting?
What a concept. LOL
I will contemplate it over tea and crompets. Ta
The King’s English.
LOL! Funniest thing I’ve read in ages!
another slow news day.
how are the dragons and fairies doing today?
Very well put. Congratulations to the Duke and duchess on their new daughter. As stated by another post. I would send a card and flowers just to tweek Obama, because Obama hates all things British so much.
Anyone know how many little Mohammeds and Aishas were born in London on this same day?
You must be a guy....
Yo, if my knowledge of history serves me well, the royals of GB at the start of the American “Civil War” we’re Queen Victoria and her consort husband, Prince Albert....
There was no POW.....
Yep, you are right...
Many apologies and I will now surrender my Merit of the Order of British History Award.
I forgot that Prince Bertie, later to be Edward the Seventh, was alive and kicking.
But I DO know that Vic and Albert did not want to take sides in the “Civil War” and had Parliament opt out of any involvement.
Phew, too much for a Sat night.....
Oh, that’s alright. :)
I just learned this myself a few months ago while reading “A World on Fire: Britain’s Crucial Role in the American Civil War”. Very fascinating topic.
Extremely well put. The British Constitutional Monarchy can be dreadfully misunderstood. It is indeed symbolic of the silver thread of history that, for a great number of us, binds our past to our present. The thread is not an insistent one. It does not tug at our coat-sleeves and demand attention. But, for those with an interest in history, and for those of us with ties to the old ‘sceptred isle’, it remains nonetheless.
It is not what the monarchy does that is important these days, but it is what the monarchy can prevent. To humble a politician is a tricky task, but a thousand years of history can usually manage it.
Also for those who scoff, let us remember that many members of the Monarchy have served both in battle and on the home front in many conflicts. The current Queen and her Mother were both quite inspirational to the populace...so was Hollywood “here” back in the day.
I totally agree....
Fascinating to learn of the twists of history and how we live presently with what happened then...
(Sorry, awkward sentence...not enough coffee before church on Sun!)
Because she'll end up shagging some greasy Arab dude like her grandma?
