2016 race: Why a Tea Party president is a real possibility
Fox News ^ | May 5, 2015 | Mark Meckler

Posted on 05/05/2015 1:04:59 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When the Tea Party began in 2009, even those of us at the heart of the movement couldn’t have predicted how it would permanently alter America’s political landscape. Just six years later, it’s undeniably at the heart of American politics in spite of countless attacks from the political establishment and from the national media. Because of the Tea Party’s strength and influence, candidates who call themselves conservative must prove their bona fides to successfully court any grassroots support at all.

Sen. Ted Cruz is a great example. Clearly a Tea Party favorite, Cruz has stood strong in the Senate for the movement’s values. He took the heat when others wouldn’t when it came to defunding ObamaCare and holding the congressional GOP leadership accountable for repeatedly caving to President Obama.

Cruz is often criticized for his Tea Party boldness but that’s precisely what makes him attractive. The movement views him as a smart, principled, constitutionally grounded conservative.

CRUZ’S CHALLENGE: Using his well-honed firebrand conservatism to get broad support across the movement and bring other constituencies in the party along with him.

Gov. Mike Huckabee, who announced his candidacy on Tuesday, has a strong constituency in the evangelical segment of the Tea Party movement. A stalwart and unbending social conservative, those who look for that as the primary hallmark in a candidate will not doubt be attracted to him. And he's built is loyal following through his years with a Fox News weekend show. But Sen. Cruz took a straight shot at that base when he announced his candidacy at Liberty University last month....

Using his well-honed firebrand conservatism

I need to change my personal drinking game.

My liver can't take it.

Cruz or lose?

My worry is that the establishment wing of the GOP would rather lose than see FedGov shrink toward its legitimate constitutional size.

Jeb’s doing a speech at Liberty U, too. I have faith in their grads to discern well.

Why a Tea Party president is a pipe dream; The NWO ruling elite controls this country thus voting is a sham meant to keep the people at bay as to think they still have a voice in who goes to the WH.

Over the last couple of days I've caught snippets of reports that Obama has no intention of letting his transformation be washed away by subsequent administrations.

The real American people are sick and tired of politics as usual (Both the demodummie and the rino parties). They/we all see a need to make a significant change is America is to survive. It is time for that change.

Disappointed to see Huckabee on this list. His campaign is a distraction to pull evangelicals away from Cruz or Rand. There is nothing Tea Party about him.

But Sen. Cruz took a straight shot at that base when he announced his candidacy at Liberty University last month....

I noticed that right away. For Cruz to win the nomination he must win a large part of the evangelical vote - so he started out by appealing to them. Being younger than Huck, and also being sharper than anyone in the field, and by starting first, I believe that he has undercut Huck in a fatal way.

IMHO, Huck cannot even win the nomination solely with the evangelicals, let alone the general. I honestly don't know why he's running. I like him a lot, but just don't think he can win. He'd certainly make a fine President, leagues ahead of the current idiot/traitor...but you have to get there first. Cruz, OTOH, will shine in debates and show a side of himself that the media hasn't presented and won't be able to control. That's how he'll win, just like Reagan did - by showing them the real guy behind the eyes.

So would you and I, probably. That's about the lowest bar possible.

Most people don’t even know what the original Tea Party was about.

“So would you and I, probably.”

So would a randomly chosen person out of my local phone book.
