FOX 5 News has confirmed Interstate 285 has been shut down due to a plane crash in DeKalb County.
All lanes of I-285 eastbound and westbound are shut at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. This is causing heavy traffic delays and motorists are urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
The plane is described as a Piper PA-32, according to the FAA. The FAA also says the plane crashed about a mile from DeKalb-Peac

“Hope Neal Boortz is not the pilot!.......................”
That crossed my mind. I was talking on the phone with a friend that was stopped in the traffic. Went online to see what the problem was to tell her.
Know the area. My house is on the flight path for PDK. Always wondered what if, especially if the engine sounds funny. If he would have been a bit further north there are a plethora of fairways he could have landed on.
PA-32 is not usually used for initial training, expensive to own and operate.
Four souls on board is not a training scenario.
Doesn't look good. I pray that the pilot and passengers got out.
5.56mm
Nope, Neal owns a Decathlon and an Ovation...not him.
Indeed. Peach tree industrial north is essentially on the ‘’glide path” for engine failure on a northbound takeoff. Or buford higway
I used to fly in and around PDK in a former life. You are right, it’s a very busy general aviation airport tucked up under Class B airspace of ATL.
“Once a plane stalls it becomes a rock and Gravity is not your friend....”
When I was taking my flying lessons we practiced power-on and power-off stalls.
I even did them by myself before getting my license.
You can recover from a stall but it takes some altitude loss to do so.
Sad BookMark - Prayers lifting for all aboard.

I did too; the instructor tried to surprise me with situations; pull the power, adjust the trim, etc but she always did it at 5K ft. If I messed up no big deal.
If you're going to make a turn like that without extra throttle...or with engine problems...it is indeed a fatal decision.
More info:
Owner of plane is Grady Bird. He was not on plane. Three men and one woman, including Bird’s son, son’s fiance, and a pet.
Some reports that propeller literally fell off. The propeller is away from the rest of the craft in most pictures.
Wow! How tragic for that family. Had not heard about the propeller.
The propellor is near the plane. See the previous photo. If it had literally come off it would not be that close.
Maybe, that’s for the FAA to truly determine. I’m only reporting what the news station said.
