Mike Huckabee: Americans don’t want Social Security reform
The Washington Times ^ | May 10, 2015 | S.A. Miller

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Sunday that his opposition to reforming Social Security doesn’t make him sound like a Democrat — but like an American.

The former Arkansas governor has broken with his party and his rivals for the nomination by opposing GOP proposals to cut benefits or raise the retirement age for Social Seucurity and transform Medicare into a voucher-style program, measures aimed at preventing the popular programs from going broke.

You may re-parrot your question all you want; my original answer still stands.

By the way, what’s your response to the Ida May Fuller question?

FR is on the right.

So you think spending trillions in foreign aid and nationbuilding, and invading and occupying, is a “conservative” principle?

I guess big government is fine, as long we spend Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars on other countries.

What’s your point?

I can’t even tell if you’re agreeing or disagreeing with me?

I take it you also opposed the German occupation 70 years ago.

Your argument isn’t with me. It’s with the American people. They’re not going to allow Social Security to be cut, on the grounds we don’t have enough money, when our leaders seem to be able to find money for foreign nation-building and occupying and invading. I don’t like Huckabee, but I’m sure his polls show that even GOP voters aren’t for cutting Social Security.

I take it the “contract” to which you refer is allegorical.

To which other contract are you alluding to?

“Another thing Americans don’t want is Huckabee.”

Right you are!

I take it you supported Obama’s war against Libya, and his attempt to get us into a war against Syria.

I take it you supported the Iraq war, and you think we should stay in Afghanistan forever, at $60 billion - to $100 billion per year.

I agree. But I still think most taxes are theft. And income taxes particularly so. Seizing the fruits of one’s labor is involuntary servitude, and that’s counter to the 13th amendment.

So if we stopped government spending on everything but SS and Medicare, do you think that would keep SS and Medicare solvent?

To the best of my knowledge, The Won has done absolutely nothing I support.

I supported the Iraq war; the entire Western world agreed Saddam Hussein had chemical weapons - he proved he had them by using them. The only question is “Where did he hide them?”. The answer to that is probably the Bekka (sp?) Valley. He also had a hijacker-training facility at Salman Pak.

I do not think we should stay in Afghanistan forever; we should be as medieval as necessary to teach the resistance there that resistance is futile.

Income taxes are part-time slavery.

The 16th Amendment must be repealed.

Something tells me you're near the top of the ponzie scheme (e.g. nearing or at collection age)......me, down here at the bottom?

I don't want it. Pay your own damn way. Me and the fruits of my labor are not your retirement plan.

Most current retirees collect what they “paid in their whole lives” within the first few years of their retirement; after that, it’s just welfare.

Others die shortly before or after retirement. That's the aspect that makes it insurance. Of course, people who know they have a genetic defect or congenital disease that likely means they will never collect do not get to opt out of the program.

1) Most Americans have no idea where they stand on SS reform.
2) Americans who have thought about changes to SS are driven more by lack of facts and fear of the unknown than by reality. Many of these are aware they lack full information.
3) Of those who have thought extensively about the topic, they bring their pre-conceived biases (on both sides) to their opinion of possible changes.

To have impact on the topic of SS, a Presidential candidate must first educate most of the voters...a difficult task.
