Elizabeth Warren fires back at Obama: Here’s what they’re really fighting about[TPP]
The Washington Post ^ | 11 May 2015 | Greg Sargent

Posted on 05/11/2015 7:12:25 PM PDT by Theoria

THE PLUM LINE: What’s your response to the latest from President Obama?

SENATOR WARREN: The president said in his Nike speech that he’s confident that when people read the agreement for themselves, that they’ll see it’s a great deal. But the president won’t actually let people read the agreement for themselves. It’s classified.

PLUM LINE: But don’t you get 60 days to review it after the deal is finalized, with the authority to revoke fast track?

WARREN: The president has committed only to letting the public see this deal after Congress votes to authorize fast track. At that point it will be impossible for us to amend the agreement or to block any part of it without tanking the whole TPP. The TPP is basically done. If the president is so confident it’s a good deal, he should declassify the text and let people see it before asking Congress to tie its hands on fixing it.

PLUM LINE: Doesn’t the current framework allow for the revocation of fast track authority?

WARREN: The whole point about fast track is to grease the skids so that 51 votes will get it through…it takes a majority to get rid of [fast track].

PLUM LINE: The push-back from the administration is that the ISDS will be written in such a way that there is no authority to override Congressional [and other countries’] regulations.

WARREN: If the president has changed ISDS to solve the problem, then the text should be released so that legal experts can look at it.

The TPP, and the ‘Fast Track Authority, is the absolute worst thing pushed on the American people since the Patriot Act and the NDAA. No true conservative politician, or American voter, should ever possibly support this TPP nightmare.......but some do.

You silly twit. Don't you remember? Just as promised: Obozo said his administration would be "the most open administration this country has ever seen". Oh...and I've got a bridge to sell you...

None of it matters. Obama will do what ever he wants. This piece of paper just makes a few people feel warm inside.

Grandma Lizzy Warren is a street fighter. Obama better watch out.

Why is a trade agreement classified?

If interest groups and the common people find out then they might actually complain about it before it is put into a unchangeable text before voting.

Good question.

What kind of government do we have?

Faux-cahontas is actually bringing up some good points.

If the trade deal is so great, Obama shouldn’t be hiding it, he should be proudly showing it off to everybody.

Is that happening? No.

That’s why people are worried, because Obama is acting like there’s stuff in there that NEEDS to be hidden from public view.

It’s odd to be in the position of agreeing with Warren, but she is absolutely right. She seems to have more cojones than the Republicans on this issue, probably on most issues. The majority of a Republican legislators are insipid twats.

Obama is a serial liar. You can't trust anything he says. No need to believe any differently in this case. He's hiding something from Congress and the American people.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that this guy is dishonest and not to be trusted? He's the biggest con man we've ever had in office. I just don't get it.

Why is a trade agreement classified?

Because it involves nuclear missiles, and they are classified.

(just kidding............. maybe)

Resolved:

The citizens of the US will not be bound by trade any agreements made in secret, and will consider them void as of January, 2017.

Warren actually understands this is another trade bill that means more American jobs lost while putting more of the national wealth in the hands of Wall Street and the multinational corporations. The Republicans have fallen in line with their masters at the Chamber of Commerce and will approve whatever Obama sets in front of them. It is a sad day when American middle class workers must depend on a socialist like Elizabeth Warren to defend their economic interests. The world has truly turned upside down.

Not one of the “free trade” bills passed in the last 25 years, nor our participation in the WTO, has resulted in a net increase in employment in the USA or an increase in the standard of living of the average American. Cumulatively these trade bills have resulted in the deindustrialization of America, the decline of the middle class, a decline in the standard of living go the average American, more concentration of national wealth in a few hands, and absolute control of both political parties by the wealthiest of the 1%.

The founding fathers’ definition of free trade was the freedom of merchants to trade with any country. It had nothing to do with tariffs. In fact the founders and those who followed them consistently maintained high tariffs to allow US industry to develop, as well as fund the federal government. The decline in the American economy, the American industrial base, and the well being of the average working American has coincided with the lowering of tariffs and offshoring of what was the world’s strongest manufacturing economy.

End the 25 year experiment with “free trade” now. Put a 30% tariff on every imported good and service. Eliminate the corporate income tax on profits derived from manufacturing inside the USA with USA source raw materials and components. Watch the US economy boom. Watch the Chinese economy crash. Our nationalist founding fathers were smart people and visionary builders who dreamed of prosperity for their nation and its people. The Bush/Clinton/Bush/Obama globalist redistributionist cabal that has been running our country since 1988 is smart and destructive with the goal of creating one world government and redistributing the national wealth of the USA to other nations, and resettling the populations of the third world in the USA. Let’s return to the original vision of national prosperity, not global redistribution.

Any Republican who passes it should NOT be able to run for President and should resign their seat immediately. They are a trader to the United States of America....siding with President Obama? Who would have thunk it?

Her and Barry are really having a back and forth over the TPP. I have read a few threads over at the DUmp, (a ‘keeping my enemies close’ thing of course and I always take an acid bath to clean up after I leave there), the last 3 weeks or so and the DUmpers are going NUTZO on Barry for pushing his TPP and Fast Track Authority support. About 8 out of 10 of ‘em just slam Barry regularly on it and support Warren’s views! This TPP is a NIGHTMARE for America in more than a few ways. No true conservative could ever in good conscience support it.
