WASHINGTON—In a speech on May 4 at Lehman College, West Bronx, New York, President Barack Obama said that long after he has left the office of the presidency, the initiative he started a little more than a year ago will continue to be working toward the removal of opportunity gaps that young people face, particularly young people of color.
“My Brother’s Keeper Alliance” is a nonprofit organization of private sector organizations and companies that work with experts and hard data to identify the barriers and find creative ways to remove them.
“You all know the numbers. By almost every measure, the life chances of the average young man of color is worse than his peers. Those opportunity gaps begin early – often at birth – and they compound over time, becoming harder and harder to bridge … And that sense of unfairness and of powerlessness, of people not hearing their voices, that’s helped fuel some of the protests that we’ve seen in places like Baltimore, and Ferguson, and right here in New York,” Obama said.
Three days later on May 7, the New America Foundation in collaboration with Howard University, held a forum on “The Criminalization of Black Youth in America” that focused on critical factors affecting life chances: school discipline, zero tolerance policies, more police presence in schools, and the increasing number of arrests and referrals to law enforcement.

“In March 2014, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights released a report that revealed disturbing data—some of it was quite shocking—concerning school discipline policies around the country. The Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) found that students of certain racial groups or with disabilities are disciplined at much higher rates than their peers, and the differences show up beginning in preschool.
“Black students are suspended and expelled at a rate three times greater than white students,” it says. CRDC also reported that black students represent 16 percent of student enrollment, but 27 percent of the students referred to law enforcement and 31 percent of students to a school-related arrest.”
The Baltimore schools are #2 in spending in the whole United States.
It should read:
Preschool to High School: Black kids who are enslaved in liberal plantations by welfare become criminals.
The only Criminalization of Black Students is by their parents ( especially the one who is not there, Dad! )
Keep em on the plantation and make them all equal under the theology of Cain.
More preferred status for blacks. What’s new? We all know no one else faces ANY obstacles in life. What a cake walk life is for the rest of us. And since we are also overflowing with money, why not take more from us to give to Obama’s favorite race.

Actually, it surprises me that it’s so little. From what I’ve seen, black students are about 1000 times more likely to attack in large groups an innocent old person of another race.
Also seems 1000 times more likely to burn down their neighborhoods.
The best thing we can do for everyone without means is to provide them with the opportunity to succeed — together. You can’t just feed the welfare state. You need to see communities with strong infrastructure, great civic leaders willing to put in the manhours to pound the pavement and get commercial interests to invest in these communities, and you need an educated workforce — with a population that values education.
Barack and his minions ought to be looking at the “fatherless B@stards to prison pipeline, or the “aggrieved victim mentality with no self control” to prison pipeline. The institutions are NOT the problem its the undisciplined thugs spawned in the ghetto.
most of any ‘opportunity gaps’ begin in the home and are compounded, made much worse... by krappy education (which began with a breakdown of basic school discipline)
kids who ‘graduate’ high school without being able to read, write, or do regular arithmetic... and without knowing basic accurate info about such things as political science and economics..........such kids are seriously handicapped for the rest of their lives
money is fine but money is not the solution. the solution is a change in the ‘organizational climate’ of public schools
if the reader doesn’t know exactly what new progressive scheme to propose for THAT, then just go back to the 50’s system of public education (without race discrimination of course) and you will have a major step forward for today’s kids

No it starts before preschool... I believe it starts pre-coitus.

Males by joining gangs and dropping out of school.
Females by having children when they are 12-years old.
And the Federal government subsidizes both groups.
Even though black students have a crime rate that is more that ten times that of white students.
I see the problem...
OK. So how do get to there, from where we are?
Most of the Democrat Party doesn't value education. At all.
Or they only want a free, Affirmative Action diploma, that didn't cost them any money or effort.
Maybe we need to change our immigration policy and start allowing people to immigrate, who aren't currently on the "Approved" list.
We have too many stupid and evil public school administrators and teachers. On the other hand, we have a lot of Black children who act violently in school like they do out of school. Like their moms behave...
