Triple murderer put to death in Texas

Washington (AFP) - The state of Texas executed a man convicted in the triple murder of his girlfriend, her mother and her grandfather, officials said.

Derrick Charles, 32, was put to death by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville at 6:36 pm (2236 GMT), according to spokesman Jason Clark.

His last words before being injected with the lethal drugs were "I'm ready to go home," Clark said.

The US Supreme Court earlier on Tuesday denied a last minute appeal by the condemned man, allowing the execution to proceed.

Charles was just 19 at the time of the murders, which anti-death penalty activists had hoped would be taken into account in appeals that sought to spare his life at trial.

"I'm ready to go home,"

Oh, I have a feeling he's home now.

Go Texas go! Justice! Here’s hoping that Abbott will speed up the process.

Some folk think they’ll see 72 virgins, some folks think they’re going home.

Here in Texas, we say: “If you kill us, we’ll kill you back.”

Now we can only hope there is a physical Hell for him to burn in.

I thought lethal injection was now cruel and unusual punishment because of one instance. Forgot the particulars in that execution, but there are thousands who are anesthetized every day and know nothing until they wake up. During that time their intravenous line could be fed simple killer drugs.

Personally, I'd like to see us go back to public hangings. I'd pull the lever myself. However, having been an entrepreneur, I'd rather develop a cable channel for the hangings and other criminal sentencing.

I'm thinking the "Justice Room".

There’s not really much the Texas guv can do to ‘speed up the process’, nor to slow it down, ftm.

Islamic terrorists discover that even the traffic cops are trained to shoot to kill!

One traffic cop vs. 2 muzzie terrorists with automatic weapons = two dead muzzie terrorists.

If there was ever a face that deserved to be blown apart, that's the one.

Although ex-military, I've never seen bodies fly apart nor the aftermath (although carried many body bags on my ship during last days of VN). So I really don't know what psychological impact that would have on me. Guess I've just been hardened from 65 years of life and seeing enough death and blood that I'm okay with certain people being blown apart.

Still, my biggest fear is watching a little doggie go through torment. Can't explain it, but that's who I am.

Exactly. The Texas governor has many powers, but unless with very good reason, cannot overturn a justly decided death penalty.

GWB took a lot of heat over this issue, but it really wasn't in his hands.

Too bad there aren't other states that have weak governors on the death penalty.

Thank you for your service Vet!

I see nothing in that face that warranted mercy. To me he looked arrogant and anything but contrite. Good riddance.

"One traffic cop vs. 2 muzzie terrorists with automatic weapons = two dead muzzie terrorists."

Yes, but where was Obambi to compliment the officer who stopped a potential massacre? He only opens his pie-hole when there is race involved. I hate that man. Yes, I said hate - it is a human emotion as relevant as the bleeding-heart's compassion for all things Utopian.

Killers are often narcissists and are incapable of understanding anything but death.
