OVERNIGHT HEALTHCARE: GOP chairman won't back extending ObamaCare subsidies
The Hill ^ | May 14, 2015 | By Peter Sullivan

Posted on 05/16/2015 12:04:49 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.) said Thursday that he does not support an idea backed by Senate Republican leadership to temporarily extend ObamaCare subsidies if the Supreme Court cripples the law.

"I don't think that I would be able to be supportive of continuing the subsidies beyond what the Court would allow," Price told The Hill.

A plan from Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) to continue the subsidies until 2017 has been co-sponsored by Senate Republican leaders. Price is one of the most prominent Republicans to come out against the idea.

The idea behind the temporary continuation is that if the Supreme Court invalidates subsidies for around 7.5 million people in the case of King v. Burwell, the party does not want people to immediately lose their insurance. The extension is intended to give time for a Republican alternative to be put in place. But Price wants to move sooner to a full Republican alternative instead of going to a temporary bridge first.

On Wednesday, he reintroduced his Empowering Patients First Act, a plan he has also put forward in previous sessions of Congress. The bill would repeal ObamaCare and replace it with refundable, age-adjusted tax credits for buying insurance. It would give grants for high-risk pools as an insurance option for people with pre-existing conditions.

Let's not forget that this unconstitutional socialist government boondoggle was rammed through by Marxist Obama and the democrats over the objection of we the people and without a single Republican vote. And then we the people rebelled (the tea party rebellion) and after several hard fought election cycles we've elected Republican majorities in the House and Senate based on their promises to repeal every word of ObamaCare. If they now weasel out or fail to do their duty, there will be hell to pay!!

I can’t see any practical way out of putting “policy ramps” in place on the way to erasing the legacy of PPACA from the law. Most of the Americans who got victimized by this game didn’t ask for it.

A time-bound grandfathering with all the penalties waived would be a good start and would make the GOP look great as the tax bite was really starting to look huge.

As we say in engineering: If it works, don't fix it ... and if it doesn't work, stop doing it! Just repeal the damn thing and be done with it!

Except you aren’t the one who neither voted for PPACA nor has to deal with the consequences of having your health care strung up in a weird way then cut down to fall broken on the floor. Nightmare stories of cancer treatments canceled will cram the airwaves.

Remember the USA cannot think more than one step any more. They are going to think of who did the most recent thing in throwing their health care into chaos. And it was not Democrats.

There has to be a trampoline, something, or the revolt is going to go against someone who is not the Democrats.

Damn the torpedoes (and your tax payer subsidized socialist healthcare plan), full speed ahead! It’s only the survival of our Constitutional Republic at stake!

You are damning torpedoes that will come from throwing a monkey wrench in a major vehicle of God’s own grace to humanity. Did Jesus physically heal people for nothing?

You need a God centered point of view, not even a republic centered point of view, or you won’t even save the republic let alone souls.

“If they now weasel out or fail to do their duty, there will be hell to pay!! “

Unfortunately Jim you are absolutely right. The only problem we will face is that the worthless GOP will also manage to “turn over control” to the RATS once again at the same time, so they will share the “hell to pay” with the rest of us. I just wished that I saw any path to ridding the country of the GOPE, because the RATS may foreclose that avenue when they are back in control of the Congress and the White Hut.

The only way to cutting that Gordian knot will be through once more acknowledging God in our hearts... which however inconvenient it is to our earthly plans where we dearly would like to throw Democrats on a bed of suffering at our own hands, entails God’s grace.

How is this for a God centered point of view. The idea of looking to the govt. as the solution to all your problems, wants and needs is sin.

The sooner the citizens, the church and the govt. turn away from that sin, the better for everyone.

Roll back all insurance to Jan 1, 2014. If you didn’t have insurance at that time and you now have Obamacare, you can stay on it till Dec 31, 2016 and the tax penalty is waived.

On Jan 1, 2016, whatever the new law is will take effect.

Biggest problem is paperwork and forms.

“I wonder if the decision is already known.”

I’m wondering about that too...armed with a fresh pack of Poise pads, Nasty Pelosi has already put up a trial balloon blaming this on those bad, evil, poor-hating, baby-eating Republicans.

When they say ‘tax credits’, then automatically it’s obvious that some people don’t have enough income even to pay taxes. Does this package also include another ‘earned income credit’ for those with no income to be taxed that goes to health care?

Is that conservative if it does have such an earned income credit? That would be bestowing money on people that only can be used toward health insurance, but it is still giving them other people’s money.

I agree, it would be the dumbest political move ever, and would guarantee permanent obamacare and worse in perpetuity. GOP has to think politically here and offer a solution that transitions to a free market system without stripping people of their health plan during the transition.

God did not establish a national socialist healthcare plan. God gave us freedom and free will and instructions to work and enjoy the fruits of our own labor. Yes, and to be charitable for sure. Our Republic and republican system of government are inspired by God’s Word. The rule of law, equality under the law, justice, freedom, fruits of labor, charity, responsibility, etc, are all biblical principles.

God gave man freedom and free will, laid down the law and then doled out justice when man disobeyed the law, going so far as to flood the entire earth. Later, God led His chosen people out of slavery, gave them freedom, promised them a nation, gave them law and justice, taught them to work and prosper and enjoy the fruits of their own labor. And all they had to do in return was to deny any false gods or idols and worship Him only and to obey His law. When they backslid and refused to do so over and over, he finally allowed their nation to be divided and eventually conquered and the people scattered.

Centuries later, our founders established a new nation under God, based on God’s gifts of justice and freedom for all. Our republican form of government and system of laws are based on solid biblical principles. Our world, our nation, our lives, our freedom, our homes, our families, our livelihoods are all gifts from God. Everything we do must be God-centered or we eventually lose all and perish.

Defending and preserving our God-given Republic and freedoms are certainly in keeping with God’s will, IMHO.

Thank you very much.

"I don't think that I would be able to be supportive of continuing the subsidies beyond what the Court would allow," Price told The Hill.

That is, until Boehner, McCarthy, and Scalise sit him down for a good talk, then watch him "evolve" his position.
