Exactly. As it stands, a felon can be arrested and put in jail if he uses a gun to protect his life or the lives of his family in his own home.

Yup. If they are too dangerous to be a free man, with all the rights that accrue virtue of being a free man, they should still be in prison. You cannot justly repeal natural law by legislative or judicial fiat.
