I don’t want guys OR women to be screwed. But what if you have a traditional marriage and the wife hasn’t worked in 25 years and the husband breaks all the vows? Maybe even abuses her? She can’t find ANY jOB? No one will hire her with that many years fallow.
What would you have this woman do? It is not true that someone who hasn’t worked for pay in 20-30 years can find a job. It is nigh impossible.
In most cases child support is commandeered as alimony, already.
They also need to bring back fault divorce too.
You described me. I stayed home, full-time 24/7 with our four kids. Took care of the house, meals, shopping, kids. I had the “non-paying” job. 21 years of marriage and no “paying career”, still had minor children to care for. I am toast.
Because of this and no fault divorce, there should be alimony. These women are us, our beloved mothers, or others. They may have sacrificed to keep the family going, and then he leaves with his secretary and the woman who stood behind him for her young hot years has nothing??
Improve alimony but don’t take it away from women who sacrificed their own chances to raise the next generation.
And this from me who refused alimony when I divorced young. But it’s different for me now and I have 4 kids to support.
