“No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

This should be imprinted on every vehicle, weapon, device, and article of personal gear used in the military.

Well .. then they definitely would want me to pray.

When Bush went to Poland - there were a lot of us here who were praying Isaiah 54:17 - “No weapon formed against you can prosper; and every tongue that rises up against you is condemned already”.

And ....... if anybody remembers, we were stunned to find out that someone in the audience (standing just below the stage) had a grenade - BUT when they went to throw it, the scarf they had it wrapped in caught the pin and kept it from firing.

NOBODY .. NOBODY can ever tell me our prayers were not involved in keeping that grenade from going off.

And .. after that event was exposed; I used to pray that over President Bush every day (several times a day). Just to be sure he was safe.

Bingo on all points. I sympathize with her motives, but she handled this really badly. And bottom line... THE COMPUTER WAS NOT HERS. That said this looks like there is more to this than what has been reported. I did a little stint with JAG back in the early 90’s while recovering from a broken arm and learned a lot about military justice.

This would be Article 15 material 99% of the time. My guess is that her command made the decision to get rid of her and this was as good a pretext as any. I won’t speculate on the reasons. I have seen it done for both good reasons and bad. Her command may have a hard core case of anti-Christian PCitis. Or she may have been the sort of person who doesn’t play and get along well with others. I have seen that too, including some Christians who just did not grasp that, yes, there are boundaries.

But clearly there is a lot more to this than what made it into print.

It is absolutely stunning for me to read many of the “she deserved it” posts here on Free Republic.

Well, Old Ben is just a lowly civilian puke, but I suspect that disobeying orders (no matter how boneheaded those orders may be) does not sit well with those who have served in the American military.

FTA:”She was found guilty of failing to go to her appointed place of duty, disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer, and four specifications of disobeying the lawful order of a noncommissioned officer.”

Yeah. Most of those charges are either she is guilty or not. There is very little room for extenuating circumstances with some of those. I am uncomfortable with some of the knee jerk cry of "persecuted Christians" on this thread. I am just not seeing how her faith could justify most of the offenses she was convicted of.

the Marines aren’t what they used to be. Remember, the recent head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dempsey, was a Marine, and a complete incompetent coward.

Marine Cp. Sterling has several things going in her favor - Female, Black, Patriotic, Religious, and now with good legal representation.

The Marine Corps needs another black eye like Obama needs a copy of the Constitution.

As a point of reference, I’m a retiree, a veteran of DS/DS and also a Christian of evangelical stripe.

The Bible verse(s) appears to have been what started it, it then appears that her attitude afterwards is what earned her the judgement...

FTA””She was found guilty of failing to go to her appointed place of duty, disrespect toward a superior commissioned officer, and four specifications of disobeying the lawful order of a noncommissioned officer.”

Look, if it’s the regulations, you follow them. If you can’t, then get out.

I had a tag on my emails for quite sometime after 911 that some puke in my company found “objectionable”, it was about traitors.

Instead of coming to me about it, he elevated it up chain and then it came back down to me...I was politely asked to remove it vs. being told to and I did.

In this case, we don’t know if the NCO was polite and respectful in her direction to the Marine or antagonistic. It’s really irrelevant. But anyway you look at it, an NCO gave her what was, by all appearances, a lawful order.

We just can’t have service members disobeying them however much we may disagree...the regulations need to be changed in an orderly manner.

She will win her appeal for two reasons. Others were permitted to write and display secular stuff and the lower court sh1t the bad on the RFRA holding. You heard it here first. No complaints from anybody but the NCOIC who pursued this garbage and issued an unlawful order discriminating against the religious versus the secular. Now that she has a good lawyer her discharge will be upgraded and she might even walk with some cash.

I worked for some several years at our Army Education Center. Our computers - all computers - were for military work only and were monitored constantly. If were got ‘off task’ the dreaded red screen would take over.

I see a waterfall effect...

She has the verse(s) on her desk.

NCO says it’s against regs, put them away.

She refuses/fails to obey, etc., NCO repeats and it goes downhill from there...

Either way, what information is contained in that snippet details insubordinate conduct and that will get any unrepentant service member bounced.

It’s a detriment to good order and discipline.

When an NCO issues an order that discriminates against religion in favor of the secular he violates federal RFRA law and his/her oath dto protect and defend the Constitution. Makes the order unlawful. Same as if he ordered her not to attend Church.
