All 8 women fail Ranger School: Some Rangers say standards should change
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | May 29, 2015 | Anne Mulrine

On Friday, the Army is expected to announce that all the women who attempted to graduate from Ranger School had officially failed to meet the standards, according to a military source.

Ranger School, which grooms the Army’s most elite special operations fighting force, opened its doors to women for the first time this year. Eight of the 20 women who originally entered the school's first co-ed class were allowed to recycle through the program after they fell out in their first go-round. The Friday announcement will confirm that this happened again.

To many, this means the system is working as it should.

The Rangers are the best of the best, and being a Ranger means passing a physical test that pushes body and mind to the breaking point. If women can’t do it, the argument goes, then they shouldn’t be Rangers.

But there is another opinion quietly being voiced as well: that Ranger School is more akin to a rite of passage – an opportunity for men to “thump their chest,” as one Ranger puts it – than a realistic preparation for leading in war. That women can actually make Ranger units more effective. And that the standards that keep them out are outdated.

It is an opinion, perhaps surprisingly, that comes from two current Rangers.

All have failed, but 5 may return at some later time from Day 1. This is a regression from the 8 that were recycled a couple of weeks ago.

This article argues the feminist position that since they have all failed, the only recourse is to change the standards so that they can succeed. This is what will happen.

A better article, with some important details on why these students failed the Darby phase for the second time are at this link (can't be posted at FR)

If a woman ever makes it and gets killed it will be claimed that the men failed to protect her because they didn’t want her in the unit.

I can't imagine any Ranger worth his salt willing to lower standards. I call this BS.

“Some Rangers” need to STFU! If they feel the need to hang out with a bunch of women 24/7, they need to do what the college kiddies do and go to Panama Beach.

Well the day that a WNBA team can beat a mid-level high-school team, I will believe women should be Rangers.

Oops, I made a mistake. Only 3 women students, not 5 as I said will be allowed to restart at Day 1. 5 have been sent to their home station and cannot continue.

The Army Times article explains why all 8 students were not allowed to continue and the three cited reasons were not related to physical standards. The three reasons, either one or in combination as applied to each student was failure to meet standard for leading patrols, bad peer evaluations, or Excessive bad spot reports.

Ranger students fail patrols because they cannot perform satisfactorily when they are placed in a leadership position, usually because they cannot perform the tasks that are required to accomplish the mission. Bad spot reports come from the lane graders for failing to perform tactical tasks successfully or violate one of the rules of the school. Falling asleep is the most frequent offense. Peer reviews trip up students who let the team down. Most times, students are not the leader, but they are expected to do their own job and to help others, including the leader, get through the mission. Students who wont’ or can’t be a team player won’t survive peer reviews.

The Christian Scientist article focuses on the physical standards, but at this stage of the course, the core requirements for leadership are the reasons for most failures and that is what happened to these 8 soldiers. Not there a rational argument will matter, the feminists will demand a change in standards and they will get it.

If a woman ever makes it and gets killed it will be claimed that the men failed to protect FRAGGED her because they didn’t want her in the unit.

There, fixed it. This is what will be said. Untrue, but it will be said.

...women can actually make Ranger units more effective.

Bullshit.

Sorry...but that was bullshit.

And I don't for a minute think a Ranger said it, unless he was a chauvinistic misogynist who thinks the women could cook and clean for them in the swamps or something.

On second thought...

“...This argument is less about gender equity than the firm belief that women can make Ranger battalions better. In modern warfare, relations with local populations are crucial, and women Rangers would provide unique value added in places such as Afghanistan or Iraq, where cultural norms often prohibit contact between male soldiers and women. Ranger School also showed women were innovative problem-solvers who offered fresh approaches in the field...”

This is completely bogus. Afghan women do not relate well to American women in men’s roles. American male soldiers can relate to civilian females better than females at times. The Taliban men do not want to lose to a unit with females so it may lead to more suicide missions or more motivation for innovative terrorist tactics.
