‘Gay’ Activist’s Call for Churches to Be Forced to Take Homosexuality Off ‘Sin List’ Draws Concerns
Christian News ^ | 27 May 15 | Heather Clark

Concerns are arising among Christians and online commentators after a homosexual activist recently told a national publication that churches “must be made ‘to take homosexuality off the sin list.'”

Mitchell Gold is the founder of Faith in America, an organization that aims to “end the harm to LGBT youth and families from misguided religious teaching.” He served on the board of directors for the Human Rights Campaign for seven years, and was named on of the “Top 50 Most Powerful Gay People in America” in 2007 by Out Magazine.

In an article written by Frank Buni of the New York Times, Gold is quoted as stating that he believes churches ought to be forced to stop considering homosexual behavior as being sinful.

“Gold told me that church leaders must be made ‘to take homosexuality off the sin list,’ he wrote.

“His command is worthy—and warranted,” Buni commented. “All of us, no matter our religious traditions, should know better than to tell gay people that they’re an offense.”

The Times article centered on Indiana’s Religious Freedom Act and Buni’s assertion that Christian Americans should “jettison” their mindsets about homosexual behavior. He contended that the interpretation of biblical text about homosexuality is “subjective” and “debatable” and said that Christians disregard the “biases and blind spots of [the Bible’s] authors, cultures and eras.”

“So our debate about religious freedom should include a conversation about freeing religions and religious people from prejudices that they needn’t cling to and can indeed jettison, much as they’ve jettisoned other aspects of their faith’s history, rightly bowing to the enlightenments of modernity,” Buni wrote. “Religion is going to be the final holdout and most stubborn refuge for homophobia.”

I don’t know who died and made him boss.

Some churches are taking it “off their sin list.”

I DEMAND THAT THEY PUT IT BACK. There. I have just as much authority as he does!

What choice do we have but to cling to our Bibles? I mean, what other source of information is available regarding what Christ taught? People are free to make things up if they want, but if one claims to be a Christian, wouldn’t one, by definition, follow what Christ taught?

I really pity church leaders and teachers who say unrepentant homosexuality is OK. Scripture is clear that they will be held to a higher standard. Instead of helping those poor souls who are struggling with homosexuality, some “churches” are saying it’s not sin and embracing homosexual unions. In my opinion, it would be far better to claim God does not exist than to claim to be a Christian and use that to lead people away from God!

This is also why churches need to be far, far more picky about their leaders. All of us are sinners, but some of us have led more depraved lives than others. Sorry, but I think it’s true. You don’t put people with long track records of weakness to sin in charge of your churches!

Thank you for the compliment, but I’m a foolish man who has made many mistakes of my own. If I have any wisdom at all, it comes from scripture.

Speaking of that, I can’t prove Christ was the Son of God, but He spoke with authority, accurately described the nature of man, and seemed credible. If He was true, then we each have a very important decision to make. If not, people shouldn’t worry about “fixing” Christianity. It’s all or nothing as Christ himself didn’t give us a middle ground.

Speaking of that...a “Christian” church that preaches sin is OK is not, in fact, a Christian church. Even more, there’s only one true church, and it’s composed of all believers. There are no Christians outside of that church, and there are no unbelievers within it.

As a Protestant, most denominations hold that all sin is equal in the eyes of God...though some have lists...

I am Protestant as well, and you are correct that most denominations don't have lists, or classify sins like the Catholics do (I.e. Mortal). However, homosexuality is called an "abomination" by God Himself, which means He finds it especially detestable. Sin is sin, and only Christ's redemption saves, but homosexuality has the distinction of being particularly offensive to God.

“So, what’s next to be taken off the sin list? ...Murder?”

“They” need to be careful what they ask for, as lots of people are alive ONLY because it is against the law to KILL THEM. For examples: communists, islamists, anarchists, government bureaucrats, etc.

So, what’s next to be taken off the sin list? Lying? Theft? Murder?

Pedophilia. Count on it.

There is already a concerted effort in process to legitimize this affront to God. They've even renamed the offenders in a more sterile light: "minor attracted persons."

“Phobia” is a highly misused word, saying that someone has a phobia implies that a person has developed a strong fear that they have little control over, often due to trauma. So, essentially, the political activists picked a word for people who disagree with them that doesn’t really describe what they want it to describe, because they are saying that people who disagree with them can’t really help disagreeing with them. I don’t think they are trying to convey that message, but rather trying to say that a person who has a phobia supposedly can help it and is being a jerk. Phobia is the wrong word for them to use.

That was the point of my post...

It may be the wrong word, but it's used on purpose...

The left are superior at using semantics...to move forward their agenda...

The use of the word homophobia is meant to put people (christian) on the defensive, hoping to silence them into submission ...

It's working well...

Don’t forget the mosques.....stroll on in there and demand they accept your lifestyle as normal also. Even more so, as they are the ones who may actually kill you just for being a queer.

It is good that you added that to the debate. Moreover, trauma is something that helps to spread the evil of homosexuality. Most homosexual men were homosexually abused as children or as young teens.

I took my copy of Rick Warren's book "The Purpose Drive Life" and burned it long ago.

Iniquity, trespass, transgression, abomination, wickedness, evil, debauchery, detestable,...

So much is to be learned from the Old Testament, which is still is God's Word and Law (according to Jesus) today, who came to fulfill the Law.

Certain things were destable to God, such as idolatry.

All sin is against God, and there transgression and trespass.

Anal and oral sex between men is an "abomination" - and God says so.

Political Correctness carried to its logical conclusion. The gays are committed to destroying Christianity.

I heard a Boy Scout leader who called into the Michael Savage show. The leader lived in San Francisco, and said he had both family members and coworkers that were openly homosexual.

He said that every time he debated them as to why they wanted "gay marriage", "gay Scout leaders", and anything else "gay", they got red faced and would finally admit that they wanted to stamp out the Christian faith.

“‘Gay’ Activist’s Call for Churches to Be Forced to Take Homosexuality Off ‘Sin List’ Draws Concerns”

Well now...it seems the reprobate does not understand that this is not achievable by humans. Of course, nor will this be without the FULL MEASURE of God’s Wrath upon them on Judgement Day, if they do it. This latest concern with the church is, WILL make you fall if you comply with the world system. It’s inevitable, and HIGHLY warned against doing.

Let’s take a look a what Jesus warned us of in Revelation 22:18-19 about this....

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

So, if any church chooses to be in compliance with this, know they have chosen the “losing” side. If you are a member of such a church, then it’s time to leave it if you don’t want to be lumped in with the ‘wicked’ on “Judgement Day”. God, doesn’t judge sin like humans judge sin. A sin to God, is serious enough to Him to make laws with spiritual, and physical consequences for our partaking in it. Humans, in their spiritual deadness judge according to the “world”...and not the “Truth”.

Satan is a Fool, as are his followers. And he knows that his time is short, yet has commit himself to see that we FALL “with him”. You are right about soon having to “choose a side”. But for Christ’s Sake and Glory, we welcome that persecution. Even unto DEATH.....as to be absent from the body is to present with the Lord. So either way, we win. And we win BIG! It’s the getting through to the end that will be the challenge. But God still controls Satan, and this world...so in Christ, who strengthens us, we can do ALL THINGS through Him. Focus on that, and nothing else, because we already see the effects of the destruction caused by Satan, to homosexuals. So intent are they to remain in their sin, that they are without recompense.
