Amana socialist collective colony. This first mosque in America. A heavy German background.

Iowa has some salt of the earth conservatives, I do know that. But there is a cultural love Iowa has with socialism.
This also explains why both parties have given the Iowa caucuses such a huge influence on elections. Its a good way to ensure the most socialist candidate gets off to a running start.

People can say what they want, but there are plenty of farmers out there with their hands out too. Think subsidies.
They are a minority of the good hard working people, but still, when the government pays you to not farm your land; and when you get money for doing what the government wants you to do, it builds loyalty in some people.

Nationalist Socialists are Nazis.

Internationalist Socialists are Communists.

American Socialists are Democrats.

There. I said it. Poli Sci 101. It doesn’t get any simpler than this.

I blame the years and years of crop subsidies.

That too. And Iowa couldn’t care less how idiotic ethanol fuel is, they want it mandated, and hand in hand, they don’t care about oil, they want corn. Etc etc,,, they do vote for big government.

Iowa has deep populist/socialist roots. Iowans elected left wing loony, Tom Harken as their Senator for numerous terms and is the home of FDR’s communist loving VP, Henry Wallace and the founder of big labor, John L. Lewis. Thus I am not surprised that Sanders draws crowds in Iowa.

So was the crowd mostly college kids? That would also explain alot, no jobs in Obama’s recession so perhaps if we had socialism we would forgive their debt and give them a job.

Some Russian commie (maybe Lenin) once asked Leon Trotsky why American wasn’t taking to socialism like many Europeans. Trotsky, who lived in New York City for awhile, responded it might be due to the fact apartment dwellers in NYC had their own toilets. Many toilets in Europe were communal toilets.

I used to work with a bunch of guys from Iowa. They were all nice guys but Dems to a man. Might be something in the soil. Maybe too much doctored pork or something.

Young people like socialism because they have not yet put in the time to amass the wealth that they would like to achieve NOW.

"farmers...hands out"

Iowa is a huge ethanol state. If some candidate doesn't support ethanol in Iowa, he or she is in big trouble.

Which reminds me of some female Dem running for office in Minnesota in a rural district a few years ago another big ethanol state. After a speech someone in the crowd asked her position on E-85. She responded "what's E-85?" Her handlers put their heads in their hands. She lost the election.
