The FBI is operating a small air force to spy on Americans

Jun. 2, 2015,

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI is operating a small air force with scores of low-flying planes across the country carrying video and, at times, cellphone surveillance technology — all hidden behind fictitious companies that are fronts for the government, The Associated Press has learned.

The planes' surveillance equipment is generally used without a judge's approval, and the FBI said the flights are used for specific, ongoing investigations. In a recent 30-day period, the agency flew above more than 30 cities in 11 states across the country, an AP review found.

Aerial surveillance represents a changing frontier for law enforcement, providing what the government maintains is an important tool in criminal, terrorism or intelligence probes. But the program raises questions about whether there should be updated policies protecting civil liberties as new technologies pose intrusive opportunities for government spying.

U.S. law enforcement officials confirmed for the first time the wide-scale use of the aircraft, which the AP traced to at least 13 fake companies, such as FVX Research, KQM Aviation, NBR Aviation and PXW Services. Even basic aspects of the program are withheld from the public in censored versions of official reports from the Justice Department's inspector general.

Details confirmed by the FBI track closely with published reports since at least 2003 that a government surveillance program might be behind suspicious-looking planes slowly circling neighborhoods. The AP traced at least 50 aircraft back to the FBI, and identified more than 100 flights since late April orbiting both major cities and rural areas.

Any idea where they are being kept?
I’ve gone in to nearly every airport in Florida and have not seen one but then they could be kept in some innocuous place like a mosquito control hanger?

One of these planes circled my neighborhood in Minneapolis last week. Two things make me uneasy about this. First is the loss of privacy. Second if this is part of an investigation it means bad guys are in my neighborhood. I am more concerned about the loss of privacy given this administration’s history of spying on anyone who disagrees with their policies.

30-day period, the agency flew above more than 30 cities in 11 states ... at least 13 fake companies... traced at least 50 aircraft back to the FBI, and identified more than 100 flights since late April ... 2010 mentioned at least 115 planes... the past few weeks, the AP tracked planes from the FBI's fleet on more than 100 flights over at least 11 states plus the District of Columbia... 2009 when it asked Congress for $5.1 million for the program.

That which they have been caught having years ago is "small" compared to what they really have.

Are you close to the Mall of America (MOA)? A friend of mine reported a plane circling the MOA and reported it since a small plane is out of place be under the MSP airport landing path. He thought it may have been a terrorist “scouting” mission. He found out it was one of these FBI planes.

Good way to spread Ebola, MERS, H1Nwhatever, anthrax, or other bio warfare.

If I see an insect spy drone, I'm dousing it with extra-hold Aqua Hairnet Spray. Let's see that sucker fly or transmit after that! (Kinda kidding)

H/T to our FRiend KeyLargo for the post.

Yet another example of LEO overreach - but what is surprising is, the MSM is actually reporting it.

Which begs the question, is this a leak, or a faucet left open?

“Second if this is part of an investigation it means bad guys are in my neighborhood.”

Not necessarily, Skunkhead’s DHS put out a memo stating that conservatives, soldiers returning from active duty, and those who want the Constitution upheld are terrorists.

Don’t recall hearing about air surveillance during the Occupy movements or Sharpton Riots.

Sarge - it’s like gun control. It’s easier to bully innocent law biding citizens than it is to go after violent criminals.
