“Would a Muslim calling for beheadings on his tee shirt be protected speech?”

That would be “hate speech” as it calls for a specific action. If he had one that said “free Palestine” it wouldn’t.

“If they want to make a political statement, they can do it on their own dime.”

They didn’t use any taxpayer money for this.

“They didn’t use any taxpayer money for this.’

The platform is tax supported. “Hate speech” laws are supposed to prevent people from being offended. That tee shirt offended people, and ALL school districts have rules against disruptive messages on tee shirts. Most do not allow any messages as a contingency for something like this.

Nope. the left has perverted the idea that you can censor speech that promotes violence into the idea that you can censor any speech you disagree with by saying it offends you. Find right to not be offended in the constitution.

Are you saying it’s OK to kick people out of school for wearing NRA T-shirts, or American flag T-shirts? Those offend people.

No. I’m just pointing our current rules. The NRA would not be permitted in some districts, if not all. The American tee shirt has been prohibited in California and upheld by a judge. Around here, it is routine for students to be sent home for having the wearing the wrong pants by mistake.

I get angry when people fritter away a “free” education that I’m helping pay for with my tax dollars. These kids have no idea what kinds of dangerous and disgusting activities they are supporting with this foolishness.

Some are trying to make the case that “Gay Is OK” is not about sex. Really? What is the first thing that comes to mind when the topic of so-called gay people comes up? Perverted sex is precisely what defines homosexuals.

If they want to wear these T-shirts on the street, fine. That’s the parents’ problem. Leave this crap at home when you go to school. This kind of immaturity and poor judgment shows that dress codes are still needed and is a strong argument for school uniforms.

“No. I’m just pointing our current rules.”

From the article, they said that their reading of the policy led them to think it would be OK. The policy at this school is not “no messages” it is no messages not approved by your rulers.

Well, their stated purpose was advocating that a person shouldn’t be bullied based on a mental disorder. I’m not sure I’m against that message.

I agree that a real dress code that teaches them how serious people dress in a professional environment would be a good idea. I don’t wear NRA T-shirts to work, I dress like a professional. As it stands it all seems too open to the individual interpretation of government employees as to what is acceptable speech and what is not.

“They” (the students) don’t get to interpret school rules for their convenience. The students knew exactly what they were doing, which was to draw attention to themselves and cause trouble, otherwise they would have asked permission. They provoked a major disturbance; they should be suspended.

“No messages not approved by your rulers.” Your language is tripping you up. “Rulers” ? Those administrators have been given the responsibility which also requires authority. I think that when you are out and about, you comply with rules of the places you visit. You can safely assume that the vast MAJORITY of the students’ parents do not want their school to bestow its blessing on the gay agenda, and said parents are the ones funding that school.

“They provoked a major disturbance; they should be suspended.”
The major disturbance was caused by the schools jack booted thugs deciding to deal with the shirts in mass at lunch. I’m sure they wanted to send a “message”

“Your language is tripping you up. “Rulers” ? “
Sorry I meant masters.

“Those administrators have been given the responsibility which also requires authority”
School officials seem to epitomize the idea of power mad bureaucrats who use the obvious need for order to justify their unreasonable autocratic rule.

“I think that when you are out and about, you comply with rules of the places you visit.”
No, I absolutely do not. Stores put up those silly “no guns” signs and I chuckle as I walk by with a gun in my pocket. The government makes way too many rules for me to follow or even know them all. Your “rulers” or masters if you prefer, have made it very clear that the rules don’t apply equally to every one and definitely don’t apply to them so they have no moral right to say they apply to me. Also, if some place has a rule that I don’t like, that they actually enforce, I have the option to not go there. Students are required to go to school.

“You can safely assume that the vast MAJORITY of the students’ parents do not want their school to bestow its blessing on the gay agenda, and said parents are the ones funding that school.”
They have no say in what leftist propaganda is pushed in the curriculum, common core or APUSH, why should they have a say in student speech?

The school authorities are not “masters” but agents of the school board whose members write the rules and are elected by the parents. They have the responsibility to enforce the school board rules, and that extends to what students are allowed to say/behave in class. With you attitude, you would really enjoy one of those inner city hell hole schools; they all think just like you.
