My personal experience is that due to an accident, I was off my job for over 6 months subsequently losing my job/benefits. I was advised to file for private insurance to afford the surgery I need to get back to work. I do get disability insurance I paid for while working, but it amounts to about 40% of what I was making.
I started the process of finding an "affordable" policy. The best I came up with was $681/mo with a $6000 deductible. I applied for the subsidies which would have only given me $200/mo savings. (I ultimately didn't qualify because my previous year's income showed I made too much. They don't use current circumstances) I would still have to struggle and pay "out of pocket" until the deductible was met... while trying to find a way to pay the premium. It's a no-win situation.
I’m sorry to hear of your trouble. What a mess!
To be honest, I was joking when I made my remark but I feel for anyone who has had trouble during this awful economy. My husband lost his job two years ago and we are struggling as well. Take care.
Sorry you had to experience Obamacare firsthand.
Those outrageous deductibles are ridiculous.
The plans have the cost of a premium PPO plan, but the coverage of a catastrophic plan.
