USA must lead on trade: Congress should pass Trade Promotion Authority(TPA) & advance free markets
Fox News ^ | June 10, 2015 | Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-TX)

Posted on 06/10/2015 5:41:21 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Having led the world in free and open markets for generations, America now faces a choice as simple as it is consequential: lead on trade, or get left behind.

The decision should be clear.

Congress is considering whether to renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA). TPA is a process between Congress and the administration for negotiating trade deals that has existed in some form for over 80 years. With TPA, Congress has greater influence over trade agreements, and U.S. negotiators hold a stronger position to secure a good deal for American producers, consumers and workers.

Absent TPA, the President has the constitutional power to negotiate trade agreements without Congressional input, transparency requirements or a mechanism to make agreements available for public review. But other countries will not engage in serious negotiations – or offer real concessions – until they know the U.S. is negotiating in good faith.

That is why TPA is essential. It puts Congress – not the administration – in charge of trade negotiation objectives. It sets clear transparency requirements and makes agreements available for public review. And it shows our trading partners that America can be trusted....

TPA is “essential”?

Gosh, that’s why it was such a big issue in the elections.

Oh Wait...it wasn’t even mentioned.

But now it’s ESSENTIAL. Or else...America will collapse! Brunei will take all of our trade from us!

Where oh Where have we heard all this CRAP before...

TPP is written as a living document. See the New American for more information on this.

So, whoever is the keeper of what’s passed can put in whatever they want. AGW, gun bans, national civilian community corps-composed of people foreign to populations, quality of medical care, oil prices, LGBT preferences, and so on.

Now, who would do that?

Ballot box isn’t working folks. Hillary wants automatic registration of voters. White middle-class and blue-collar voters will get overwhelmed by the illegals and gimmedats.

Kenny Marchant sounds like he is getting a pay off for this?

If it’s so great, then show it to the public. Why hide it????

For the record the little part that deals with trade. It’s only free trade for other countries not to pay U.S. Tariffs.

However, the United States still has pay tariffs to other countries.

Thus, companies are encouraged to leave the United States and set up offices in foreign countries to avoid paying tarriffs. Plus if they try to stay here our government will attempt to tax and regulate them out of business. Much like Obama on coal. It’s a complete lose lose situation for America.

It’s like playing a rigged poker game where one side can cheat and the other side cannot.

It also includes carbon taxes. That’s one of the reasons it’s kept hidden and why Paul Ryan is trying to insert a provision to say they can’t do it.

The fact that Kenny Marchant is too stupid to understand this or corrupt... Means he has to go next election.

What a bum!

Cromnibus was a declaration of war against conservatives by the GOPe. But no organization on the conservative side can be bothered to fight this war apparently. I hear lots of hot air from Levin and Ingraham but never any suggestion of direct action.

The GOPe in heavily GOP districts think they can get away with pushing the anti-American K Street agenda. A few fliers and ads back in their home district would put the fear of God in these beltway dirt bags. Nobody is willing to form a PAC and engage the GOPe rank & file NOW. Really, really curious why this battle is being preemptively surrendered.

Giving the president to negotiate an economic treaty is not “free market”. It’s one persons idea of a controlled market. Unless the treaty says “no tariffs or taxes and no import duties” then it’s just another negotiated agreement between govt’s to find a way to tax the consumer.

“lead on trade, or get left behind.”

“Eat s**t, or get left behind”.

Equivalent logic.

Kenny Marchant (R) Texas, seems to let Obama’s speech writers write his press releases and editorials for him.

Kenny should know better.

http://thinkprogress.org/immigration/2013/06/17/2170721/marchant-latinos-immigration/

The proposed immigration overhaul “is very unpopular in my district,” said Marchant, who represents suburbs west of Dallas. “The Republican primary voters, they’re being pretty vocal with me on this subject.” Besides, he said, “if you give the legal right to vote to 10 Hispanics in my district, seven to eight of them are going to vote Democrat.”

More likely K Street lobbyists supplied the talking points for this crap sandwich. Reason it sounds the same is their corportist agenda is bipartisan.

Global commerce with wage equalization requires global government, which in turn requires elimination or neutering of the U.S. Constitution.

In all of our “partners”, the state is sovereign. In the US, the people are sovereign. These two concepts are not compatible. With world government, one has to go.

I cannot believe otherwise conservative FReepers cannot see this.

You see it here and it is prevalent throughout the country.

Too many conservatives are willing to be rained on, dumped on and spit
on over and over again, just because they chose to vote for what they
perceive as the lessor evil(The GOP).

They enable the GOP by never holding them accountable.
Always making excuses, or hoping things will change.

However, the GOP never changes. They only get worse.
And these enablers are the reason the GOP does not fear conservatives.
