There’s Nothing Reaganesque About Donald Trump
The American Spectator ^ | 6/16/15 | Aaron Goldstein

Posted on 06/17/2015 1:26:23 PM PDT by Kartographer

Trump might sing the praises of Reagan today, but when he was in office he sang a far different tune. In The Art of the Deal, Trump wrote this about The Gipper:

Ronald Reagan is another example. He is so smooth and so effective as a performer that he completely won over the American people. Only now, nearly seven years later, are people beginning to question whether there's anything beneath that smile.

Totally agree with that.

Trump is more comparable to Ross Perot. A billionaire running for president without ever holding another elected office.

Only major differences between Trump and Perot. Perot ran as independent, Trump running as a Republican.

Perot was stern and disciplined, Trump a charlatan and a loose cannon, an uncorked vox pox.

Contrast Trumps "speech" yesterday with Reagan's nomination acceptance speech.

Perot was running for president. Trump is just leeching publicity.

Perot- is way more intelligent.

Don Trump is a side show, an entertainer, a media personality who happens to have made some success in business. Nothing more and nothing less.

The fact that he embraced Oprah, who is also a side show, an entertainer, and the media personality who happens to have made some success in business and also played a key role in launching our current national nightmare into the presidency tells me all that I need to know.

How can you criticize the national nightmare while, at the same time, embracing the fellow entertainer who played such a key role in launching him?

George Soros is worth 24.2 Billion. That’s over twice what Donald has, so would you like to see him run?

I don’t think you know his history. He used eminent domain and government contracts and low interest bank leverage. He had four bankruptcies. He also has at least two MLM- pyramid schemes.

Mentioning Trump and Reagan in the same sentence makes me ill. Comparing Clarabell to Churchill as far as I’m concerned.

Contrast Trumps "speech" yesterday with Reagan's nomination acceptance speech.

Reagan was a polished actor and speaker. I supported him.

You bring Reagan back from the dead and I might vote for him.

In the meantime, I'll take the guy who can't be bought and built an empire, as opposed to a bunch of bureaucrats on the payroll.

Donald seems to be saying what everyone in common sense America wants to hear, I don’t trust the man to actually do anything about it if he should happen to get into a position of power...

The son of a “lowly” multi-millionaire inherited thousands of NYC properties. He could be a multi-billionaire on inflation alone.

He also sold his name on long term contracts bought by third parties that actually own and operate the businesses. He made a lot franchising himself for sure. But any business he actually runs goes south.

The Trump Casino in Atlantic City is a joke.

I know that FR doesn’t adhere to Reagan’s rule against speaking ill of a fellow Republican, but I would think speaking ill Ronaldus Magnus would cause a the Viking Kitties to unleash their Kraken?

Trump was born into a wealthy family. His father was a wealthy NY developer. So he had a good start. I don’t question his business abilities for a moment.

But as with Ross Perot and yes, Dr. Carson (A man I respect very much) I always question any person whose first elective office they seek is the presidency. I do exempt military leaders like Eisenhower and Grant from this requirement.

I actually think Trump (and Dr. Carson) could make a significant difference running for other offices first. Would love to see Trump run for governor of NY or Mayor of NYC and see what does first. The state is notoriously high tax and anti-business. If Trump could turn that around, I think he would be taken more seriously.

RR had to establish his credentials as governor of CA before people would take him seriously as presidential material.

You need to vote to one of those bureaucrats in D.C. who’d pass on the inheritance and opt to give it to Communist China or Mexico instead.

Stay with business as usual. Wink wink.
